Job Duties
The Department of Forensic Science has experienced record growth and is currently in construction of a new state of the art facility in Hanover County. The Central Laboratory, Director's Office, Administrative Offices, and the Office of the Medical Examiner, currently located in Richmond, will move to the new facility when it is completed. The transition is anticipated for the First Quarter of 2026.
The Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS) is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and detail-oriented Materials Manager to join the agency's Central Laboratory Administration Section, located in Richmond, VA. This position will manage the day-to-day functions of the storeroom, coordinate specialized shipments to the Department's regional laboratories, prepares and ships packages using commercial courier services, distributes interoffice mail, and the receipt, storage, and transport of hazardous materials and controlled substances. This position is also responsible for the labeling and disposal of surplus property, fleet management for state vehicles, processing requisitions, receives and delivers supplies and equipment, and evidence kit distribution. In addition, this position will evaluate and determine appropriate laboratory and office supply inventory, postal and specialized shipment cost control, medical gas inventory control, and provide reports to management. Must obtain forklift operator certification within 3 months of hire date.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in storeroom operations, inventory control, scheduling, and distributionKnowledge of inventory control and management principles and practicesProficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite, to include Word, Excel, and OutlookExcellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills with the ability to communicate to internal and external customersAbility to maintain accurate records, solve problems, prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to lift up to 75 pounds, with or without accommodationsAbility to operate a Forklift, with or without accommodationsPossess a valid driver's licenseAdditional Considerations
