Reports to: Supported Employment Program Manager or Director of Programs

Pay Grade: Hourly Rate Range $23 - $27.00

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for assisting participants to obtain and maintain employment that is consistent with their vocational goals. The Employment Specialist will work with participants to target employment in their areas of interest and works with them to customize their resumes to their career of choice.

This role will be directly working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Review participant referrals from Department of Rehabilitation and Regional Centers Assess participants' vocational functioning abilities and skillset Participate in a participant's intake process Creates an individualized job development plan for each participant including skillset, strengths, capabilities, and job parameters Maintain consistent communication with participants and their planning team on progress Meet with participants in-person on a weekly/bi-weekly basis Spends 50% or more of scheduled work hours in the community. For example, meets individual at community locations such as workplace, coffee shop, meeting with potential employers, library, VR office, etc. Assists participants in the development of resumes, assessments, and completing applications Advises participants and helps them acquire skills needed for employment of choice including job preparation. With the client's permission, provides education and support to family members. Discusses participant's preference for disclosure of psychiatric status to employers Leads Employment Preparation Services classes for participants Work with the TRC team to ensure that participants gain relevant skills that would help participants explore alternative employment options Documents progress of job development process including case notes and monthly progress reporting Schedules and visits potential and existing employers to identify and develop positions for participants Attend participants interviews in-person, virtual, and/or via phone Match job seeking participants and employers using a variety of professional job placement skills Develop employment opportunities to match individual participant needs Assists qualified participants in identifying positions or internships in their field of interest Attend job and career fairs to look for employment opportunities that would match participants' skills Networking with professional/community organizations that are involved in job placement/training activities Provide individualized follow-up supports to assist participants maintain employment once placed Provides timely interventions. Returns phone calls and reacts to situations in a timely manner. For example, returns individual's phone calls within 24 hours. Communicates with employers during participants' employment and reports results to Supported Employment Manager Works with job coaches to collect and track job placement data Develop marketing and promotional materials to advertise job placement services and activities on and off campus Serve as an advocate to disclose accommodations about participant to employee OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree preferred At least 2 years of work experience in job development Working knowledge of ADA laws and basic labor laws preferred Ability to travel, visit work sites and attend community meetings Experience in working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Possess strong analytical skills for interpretation and action to improve quality of services. Possess strong interpersonal & communication skills. Must be able to maintain a professional and positive demeanor. Good oral and written communication. Familiar and well-versed in ASL (American Sign Language) is a plus. Candidates must have a valid driver's license with active auto insurance. Possess solid organizational skills. Active First Aid and CPR Certification required or obtained within 30 days from start of employment Must successfully pass mandatory background check, drug test, and medical examination
