A day in the life of the Development Specialist role:
The Development Specialist at Girl Scouts of Utah (GSU) will be a strong writer, skilled communicator, and highly organized professional who plays a central role in supporting GSU's fundraising efforts. Working closely with the Development Manager, this role focuses on grant research, writing, and reporting, while also involving donor engagement, database management, and event coordination. The successful candidate will contribute to annual campaigns, workplace giving, fundraising events, and donor stewardship, helping achieve revenue goals and strengthen relationships with funders, donors, and community partners.
The Development Specialist Key Accountabilities are in the following areas:
Grant Writing & Management: Manage the full grant lifecycle, including research, proposal writing, compliance, reporting, and relationship building. Identify funding opportunities, craft compelling proposals, ensure adherence to requirements, track progress, and foster partnerships with funders while managing GSU's grant calendar and providing regular activity reports.
Donor Engagement: Acknowledge gifts promptly, build relationships with donors and community partners through excellent customer service, and collaborate with leadership to identify and research prospective supporters to grow the donor pipeline.
Database Management (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and NXT): Manage donation processing and donor records in Blackbaud, ensuring accuracy and timely gift acknowledgment, while generating reports, tracking campaigns, reconciling with Finance, and serving as the department's database expert.
Collaboration & Customer Service, Additional Support: Collaborate on fundraising events, campaigns, and supporter engagement initiatives, managing event software, coordinating vendors, and maximizing impact while providing administrative support and partnering across teams to achieve development goals.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or higher required.

``` - Proven experience (2+ years) of professional grant writing and fundraising experience.

``` - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

``` - Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge or NXT is preferred.
Skills:
Exceptional writing and communication skills (writing samples required).

``` - Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective interdepartmental relationships.
