Purpose:
To provide leadership for the Music Ministry at FPC-Plano in coordination with the Pastor, Organist, and Worship and Music Committee.
Accountability:
The position is accountable to the Session through the Pastor. The Pastor provides administrative supervision. The primary working relationship is with the Pastor, Staff, and the Worship and Music Committee. The Pastor, along with a member of Staff Support, will conduct an Annual Performance Evaluation.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1) Organize and plan special and choral music for Worship and special services as required.
2) Perform as lead vocalist or soloist for the Choir and contract with other soloists/vocal artists as needed.
3) Provide leadership for all vocal and instrumental groups, directly or through the supervision of volunteers.
4) Serve as Liturgist 2 to 3 Sundays of the month.
5) Serve as Cantor each Sunday for hymns, responses, and closing.
6) Serve as soloist for weddings, memorials, or funerals as needed (if available).
7) Oversees, with the Pastor, Organist and Worship and Music Committee, the suitability of music in worship and other services. (i.e.-reflects liturgy, sermon, liturgical calendar, and sermon theme).
8) Participate with the Pastor, Organist, Bookkeeper, and Chair of the Worship and Music Committee in preparing an Annual Budget for the Music Ministry of FPC-Plano.
9) Create and maintain an annual calendar with deadlines for purchasing and/or deciding upon music for special worship services (i.e. – Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and Christmas Cantata by 10/1).
10) In the third quarter, secure instrumentalists for the year; schedule deadlines for music to be provided and required practices with instrumentalists and choir.
11) Report every six months to “One License” any contemporary selections retrieved from the internet sung by the Congregation during worship and special services.
12) In conjunction with the Organist, oversee the maintenance of musical instruments belonging to the Church, making suggestions to the Worship and Music Committee for any needed maintenance, repair, replacement and/or purchase of major instruments.
13) On a quarterly basis, meet with Worship and Music Committee.
14) Communicate regularly with the Choir and Organist in person and by email/text about upcoming music and special events.
15) In conjunction with the Organist, organize and maintain the cleanliness of the Choir Room.
16) Maintain consistent communication with the Pastor and other Church Leadership.
