Music Director

OverviewWe are seeking a talented and passionate Part Time Music Director to join our church team. The ideal candidate shall have primary responsibility to plan, coordinate, and oversee the programming of all musical activities which are a part of all Worship Services of the Congregation. Planning shall be in conjunction with the Pastor (or his/her designate) and in consultation with the Worship and Music Committee. The Music Director shall serve as a voting member of the Worship & Music Committee and provide regular reports of their activities to the Council and prepare an Annual Report of music activities to the Congregation at the time of the congregational Annual Meeting. Additionally, the Music Director shall serve as a voting member of the preschool committee. He/she shall help to develop a music plan that bridges the preschool with the church.ResponsibilitiesPrepare for the weekly worship services, including choosing music appropriate to the day/sermon, rehearsing and preparing the choir for worship service, and providing such other music and instrumentals as appropriate. This activity will be in consultation with the Pastor.Schedule all music used in the worship Service including appropriate hymns, responses, and anthems. This shall include the coordination of all musical organizations of the church such as bell choirs, vocal choirs, Praise group, instrumentalists, and musical offerings of any kind within the context of a worship Service.Communicate to the church office all music that is to be included in the Sunday bulletin, including song licensing information.Maintain digital and paper music libraries.Schedule rehearsals as needed of vocalists, choirs, and other musicians who participate in the Service at times agreeable to the affected people and when building facilities are available.Enlist and train vocal and instrumental musicians to assist as needed in the service music and, where possible, arrange and/or orchestrate music as needed for the Service musicians.Recruit appropriate musician leadership for all services whenever Music Director will not be available to provide leadership in the Service.Assure that all music and publications used for any purpose meet the requirements of the U.S. Copyright laws and arrange that all necessary reporting mechanisms for music licenses are complied with and kept current.Cause the ordering, purchasing, cataloging, and filing of all music or supplies and securing musicians used in worship Services subject to the budget limitations as determined by the Council and the Worship & Music Committee.Coordinate with the pianist/organist to notify vendors or other responsible people as needed to maintain or repair the musical instruments owned by the congregation.Direct the adult choir, bell choir and Praise group in rehearsal and at services. Choose the music and schedule participation.As the need arises, oversee and/or direct the children’s choir and youth ensembles as needed.
