Position OverviewAs part of our Digital Experiences Engineering team, you will technically lead the creation of end-to-end experimentation and ML personalization systems to increase engagement and retention of Autodesk customers. Our team faces a variety of unique and interesting challenges.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help us grow from our current walk stage of the offerings to aspirational leap/fly stages.

You will report to the Manager of Software Development. This position is in the Bay Area and is Hybrid-Remote.

Responsibilities

Architect and Build: Design, develop, and implement large-scale, robust systems balancing risk and long-term sustainability.

Data-Driven Product Development: Leverage data insights to inform product strategy, drive innovation, and improve key metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency).

Technical Leadership: Mentor and develop engineering talent, establish architectural best practices, and guide overall technical direction.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with business, design, and engineering teams to deliver impactful solutions.

Data Engineering Proficiency: Build and optimize data pipelines (Parquet, Iceberg, Flink, etc.), data warehouses, and visualizations to support business intelligence and machine learning.

Machine Learning Integration: Collaborate with data scientists to operationalize ML models and leverage LLM capabilities.

Minimum Requirements

Technical Expertise: 8+ years of experience in software development and proficiency in JavaScript, Python, Java/Scala and big data technologies (Flink, SQL, AWS; Spark, Trino, Snowflake and/or HDFS; DataMesh, etc.).

End-to-end Systems Development: Proven ability to architect and build complex systems with a long-term vision.

Data Analytics: Deep understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision making. Proficiency in collaborating with data scientists to translate advanced models into scalable production code.

Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence.

Communication: Exceptional communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary TransparencySalary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $141,400 and $228,800. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
