Job Profile SummaryUnder general supervision, the purpose of this job is to perform a range of landscape maintenance duties, working safely with gas and diesel powered equipment, and attending to plants, trees and lawns on assigned campus. Employees in this job classification are responsible for performing daily routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment, fencing and ground features as needed. Performs related work as directed.

This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans' Preference pursuantto Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers forpostsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its politicalsubdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Minimum Experience/Training:

Three or more years of experience in landscape/grounds maintenance and small equipment operation at the journey level or 4 years of apprenticeship in relevant trade(s), or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Minimum Certification/Licenses:

Desirable certifications/licenses include Tree trimmer I certification, Forklift certification, Man lift certification, CDL Class D, certification from an accredited technical school. Licenses include Tree Trimmer I certification, Lawn and Ornamental (L&) O) license (for spraying Roundup), GI-BMP Fertilizer certification (require for fertilizer application) preferred.Valid Florida Driver's License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days after beginning employment by the College.Essential Functions:

Daily - 10%: Participates in routine to advanced maintenance and repair duties and may occasionally act as lead worker for a given project or work independently.Daily - 10%: Operates lawn maintenance equipment in the mowing, edging, weeding, trimming and pruning of grounds, shrubs, trees and plant beds.Weekly - 25%: Applies fertilizers and herbicides as needed in the treatment and prevention of insect invasions and disease, and maintains application log book.Weekly - 25%: Operates Genie man-lift in order to provide consistent tree pruning service.As Needed - 5%: Acts as supervisor on duty in absence of department supervisor.Daily - 5%: Performs a full range of landscaping maintenance duties including leaf removal, lawn care and irrigation.Weekly - 5%: Removes litter and empties trash receptacles.Weekly - 5%: Assures roads, parking lots and walks are maintained for safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic.Annually - 5%: Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.Other - 5%: Performs related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proficient ability in general landscape/grounds maintenance procedures.Ability to diagnose, treat, and maintain trees including specific knowledge to identify pests and diseases known to affect the health of trees and shrubs.May train other non-skilled or semi-skilled staff within the trade.Ability to recognize needs of unit and own responsibility.Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff within grounds and maintenance.Proficient skills in one or more trades.Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required for some positions.
