Job Purpose
This position is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating quality assurance programs to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products.
Responsibilities Act as subject matter expert on food safety and quality assurance programs and provide quality and food safety leadership to the organization via programs including statistical process control, regulatory compliance, process development, validation and testing. Coordinate with Quality Systems department on all internal and external audits, including annual SQF audit and those conducted by regulatory agencies and customers. Coordinate with Quality Systems department on various food safety activities including process validations, ingredient risk assessments and controls, supply chain controls, and investigation and follow-up of customer and consumer complaints. Coordinate with 3rd party services including pest control and sanitation services to assure effectiveness of programs and drive continuous improvements. Develop and maintain all relevant policies and documentation, including HACCP/FSP, recall policies and procedures, audit programs, food safety and other GMPs. Develop and maintain professional relationships with USDA and regulatory agencies Stay up to date with all regulations, customer requirements, and technology as related to Quality and Food Safety ensuring all quality assurance processes constantly meet regulatory and compliance requirements. Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in food science, biology, or related field required. Master's Degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred. 10+ years of Quality Assurance experience, primarily within food manufacturing. Must include food safety matters, corporate regulatory work, and direct experience working in a plant and with relevant laboratory practices Specific knowledge and direct experience in ensuring adherence with FDA and USDA regulations, plant production processes/systems, SQF, GMP, HACCP, and FSP. Excellent communication, collaboration, team building, mentoring and people management skills Ability to create accountability, lead by example and positively influence others Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, make sound, data-driven decisions, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of changing situations Ability to effectively articulate and present the company's quality strategy to our employees, senior management, regulatory bodies and customers.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone as well as use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position may also frequent the production floor, so operating in standard seasonal warehouse and food processing plant temperature conditions will be required. Work is completed in a facility where nuts, fruits and other allergens are present.
