Position Information
This posting is for the Specialty Recreation Division Manager, who will oversee outdoor adventure, environmental education, and therapeutic recreation programming, as well as the operations of the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center and the Therapeutic Recreation Center.
This position will be available in January 2025.
Job Summary

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff of employees, volunteers, interns, sports officials, or other workers, to include processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and selects new employees; conducts training activities.
Coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; conducts staff meetings; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees, program participants, and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Manages operations and activities of the Athletic or Recreation Division; plans and oversees various athletic and recreational programs, activities, and events for the community.
Consults with Deputy Director and/or Director of Parks & Recreation, County administration, and other officials to review division operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations; prepares oral/written reports of programs, provides statistical data of program growth and interest, and recommends new services and activities.
Coordinates activities/events with other divisions, other departments, outside agencies, or others as needed; meets with community leaders and organizations to promote department programs, obtain input for improvements, and discuss problems; coordinates with other recreation agencies to exchange ideas and avoid overlapping programs; coordinates use of schools and other County facilities for programs and special events.
Develops and implements annual division budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; works with staff to develop rental fees for use of recreation facilities; monitors number of season employees and hours worked.
Develops, updates, and implements division policies and procedures; assists in updating/revising game rules or rule books.
Develops and implements long and short term plans, goals, and objectives for the division; provides recommendations regarding future facilities and staffing; recommends addition, deletion, or revision of programs.
Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of division operations, programs, methods, and procedures; evaluates participation levels and overall success of each program or event; implements improvements as needed.
Develops program goals, objectives, and priorities; assesses community needs/interests and recommends appropriate programs/activities; makes projections of anticipated number of participants and revenues for programs.
Promotes Forsyth County, its Parks & Recreation Department, and its recreational programs within the community; provides information and promotional materials to marketing staff.
Prepares contracts for groups/individuals using County facilities; meets with officials' associations to negotiate pricing and draw up agreements; negotiates fees with umpires.
Assists with enforcement of County/facility rules/regulations during programs/activities; monitors conduct of program participants, responds to situations involving disruptive behavior or other problems, and assists with implementation of disciplinary actions against participants/spectators.
Maintains inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies and materials to conduct programs/activities; initiates orders/requests for new/replacement items; prepares bid specifications for new equipment and supplies; coordinates maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment.
Conducts inspections of parks/facilities to ensure safety and proper conditions.
Develops safety checklist forms for staff use in inspection of recreation facilities, fields, and equipment.
Performs administrative tasks; prepares daily, weekly, and/or monthly activity reports reflecting program enrollment, revenues, expenditures, or other data; maintains accurate, current program records; processes payroll sheets for payment.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, activity reports, program outlines, budget reports, revenue reports, attendance reports, bids, facility use agreements, employment applications, payroll documents, activity/event schedules, work schedules, accident/injury reports, rule books, policies, procedures, instructional materials, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, e-mail, Internet, or other programs.
Communicates with supervisor, other departments, County officials, employees, volunteers, class instructors, coaches, sporting officials, athletic organizations, program registrants/participants, parents, spectators, vendors, sales representatives, event sponsors, local businesses, the public, the media, community organizations, outside organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
Responds to suggestions, questions, or complaints related to programs and activities; provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
Provides information to the community regarding recreation/athletic programs, activities, facilities, schedules, fees, and related issues.
Attends meetings, serves on committees, and makes presentations as needed; represents the department at community events and meetings; makes presentations to the public, community leaders, and community organizations.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.
Responds to problems or emergency situations on a twenty-four-hour basis.
Operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university; supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible experience and/or training that includes recreation program management, program administration, athletic league coordination, public relations, budget administration, and management; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess or obtain Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) status through the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) within one (1) year of hire.
