Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The department covers a wide variety of patient care activities including gender-affirmation surgery, breast reconstruction, trauma, lymphedema, extremity reconstruction, hand surgery and complex surgical wound care. These surgeries often require collaborative, multidisciplinary care. This position will support the Medical Director for the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health's busy reconstructive surgery practice.
Shift:
Full-Time (4 10-hour days M-TH)
Day shift
No nights or weekends
No call
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Physician Assistant will be responsible for the following job duties:Outpatient:
Participate in attending clinics. Evaluate new and return patients with the attending physician to develop patient care plans.Place relevant referrals, lab work and orders.Follow-up on outpatient labs, imaging studies, pathology reports and communicate results to patients.Conduct an independent clinic seeing follow-ups and post-operative patients. The PA may provide routine post-operative care, wound care, and basic bedside procedures.Assist with paperwork in accordance to department guidelines (FMLA, short term disability, gender marker changes, TSA travel letters, work clearance notes, etc.).Perform peer-to-peer reviews for gender surgery insurance coverage denials, and assist with appeals.Conduct medical clearances for patients requiring additional items to be submitted prior to scheduling surgical consultation.Provide patient and caretaker education in the perioperative period.Collaborate with residents, fellows, attending physicians, physician assistants, nurses and office coordinators to optimize patient care. Assist in coordination of patient care across multidisciplinary team(s).Provide education to hospital staff on treatment and care for CTH patients.Collaborate with programmatic development and education.Operating Room and Inpatient Expectations:
Support patient and surgeon through perioperative experience (orders, consent, prep, etc.).Second assist in surgery.Provide acute post-operative care including rounding on inpatients, monitor patient progress, and manage complications as necessary in collaboration with Inpatient PA.Serve as liaison for OR coordination between surgical team and operating room staff to improve efficiency.The PA practices within the guidelines of the unit department and institution and in accordance with the PA-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the state of Maryland. The Physician Assistant is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins Hospital
Education requirement:
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.Professional licensures/Certifications:
Registered/certified by the Maryland Board of Quality Assurance. Board certified (or certification-eligible for new graduates) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).Current state licensure as a Physician AssistantCurrent CPR certification required.Previous surgical experience preferred.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Commitment to providing compassionate care to transgender, nonbinary, gender fluid or questioning patients.Benefits:

Salary Range: Minimum 53.15 per hour - Maximum 82.38 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
