General Definition:The Speech and Language Pathologist Supervisor supervises and maintains a high standard of excellence in speech language instructional programs.This position provides administrative support to speech language programs/services and provides consultative services to member school districts. The supervisor may also deliver training to teachers or other professionals regarding speech and language development and disorders. As a supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining knowledge regarding the current research in the field of speech and language and support compliance with the American Speech Language and Hearing Associations (ASHA) recommended practices for speech language pathologists. In addition, the speech language supervisor must maintain knowledge of both IDEA and Chapter 14 mandates to ensure compliance.
Description of Duties:
Provides supervision and instructional support for speech language pathologists in the Early Intervention Program. Provide supervision and instructional support for early intervention special education teachers, hearing/vision therapists and classroom assistants.Provides leadership and directions to ensure educational programs meet the needs of students with disabilities so that programs are in accordance with state and federal mandates (OSEP, PDE and OCDEL) and are compatible with the needs of the school district.Evaluates staff through Teacher Effectiveness to support staff in their professional growth, determine eligibility for tenure and assist staff when improvements to instructions are necessary.Provides ASHA's required clinical fellowship mentoring when necessary for new employees consisting of a minimum of 12 hours of direct/ indirect observation every 12 weeks for the mandated 36 week fellowship.Develops and provides training programs for WIU and district SLPs on a variety of topics relevant to the field of speech and language pathology.Manages staff caseloads and assignments to ensure compliance with state guidelines and ensure fiscal responsibility.Supports staff when needed to ensure ACCESS billing is maximized.Serves as a consultant to districts, as needed, on best-practices in the area of speech language pathology.Assists in the recruitment, selection and recommendation for hiring of speech language pathologists.Develops and monitors the teacher induction program for non-tenure speech language pathologists.Acts as the CE Content Consultant for the development of administration of ASHA certified coursework.Facilitates Kindergarten Transition meetings for designated early intervention students that are of transition age and work collaboratively with the receiving school districts to ensure a seamless transition process.Monitors and assists with the transition process for student entering Early Intervention program from Infant Toddler Programing.Applies solid understanding of data systems utilized in school age and early intervention programming i.e. StaR, PELICAN (Pennsylvania's Enterprise to Link Information for Children across Networks), Gasp and Grow, LMS (Learning Management System) and Docushare.Evaluates, plans, develops, implements programs and services for early intervention programs.Identifies, acquires and implements grant opportunities to support programmatic growth and improve outcomes for children.Supervise Safe Feeding Team.Demonstrates a solid understanding of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) verification process which includes both on-site compliance monitoring as well as self-verification. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of speech language development and disorder, as well as, the roles and responsibilities of an SLP in the field of special education.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.Ability to effectively engage in conflict management.Understanding of IDEA and Chapter 14 regulations.Knowledge of the American Speech Language and Hearing Associations recommended best practices for speech and language services within schools.Current or former Westmoreland Intermediate Unit employees must have demonstrated proficiency in job assignments.
