Job Summary/Description
Reporting to the Provost/VPAA, the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, plans, organizes and directs the programs, activities, and functions of the college. Oversees college curriculum development, online delivery, dual credit and faculty training. Coordinates the activities of the departments and faculty in the college with administrative and external entities, such as regulating and accrediting organizations, as well as community and professional constituencies.
Typical Duties/Job DutiesPlans, organizes, and directs the work of academic department chairs and support staff, providing direction concerning a variety of administrative and academic issues such as assessment, budgeting, planning and goal setting, curriculum, program development, personnel, class scheduling, and policy interpretation.Formulates or revises policies and procedures affecting the operations or functions of the college; works with senior administrative officials in matters relating to college and university programs.Reviews and approves student degree plans; certifies the completion of all academic requirements for student graduation; provides academic advice and guidance to current or prospective students, including appeals for academic suspension.Participates in promotion and tenure review activities; evaluates faculty and staff performance and provides counseling and feedback as appropriate.Prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda, and administrative reports; reviews and approves travel and leave requests, purchase requisitions, and other administrative forms
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMust be knowledgeable about disciplines included in the arts and humanities.Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and competent competency with email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation production.Willingness and ability to communicate with entities outside of the university.
Minimum Qualifications
Terminal degree in one of the disciplines in the college and credentials sufficient to be awarded tenure in that discipline. Minimum of two years of administrative experience at department chair level or above.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years of administrative experience at the department chair level or above.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in person on campus or on university business at least five days per week.
