Overview
The ideal candidate will be able to work as a Medical assistant with both Mohs and General Dermatology. Looking for Mohs Surgical Assistant to join our Mohs Surgery team. The position is responsible for assisting the Mohs surgeon during procedures as well as responsible for the scheduling and pre-certification of Mohs surgical procedures. Candidates should be detail-oriented and be able to provide superior care in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a pleasant and caring demeanor.
Full Time: 32 hours a week
Tuesday - Friday: 7:45am - 4:30pm

Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedureAssists Mohs surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon including Biopsies - punch, DIF and shave, Excisions, Electrodessication and curettage, I&D, and Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgerySets up procedure room, according to prescribed standardsDress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery siteTakes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages. Label and organize photograph.Handles specimens for pathology according to prescribed standardsAssist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processingPrepares the patient prior to the procedure; obtains and reconciles medical and surgical history, accurate list of medications and allergies. Documents appropriately in EMREducate patients on treatment plans, expectations, and post-operative instructionsSterilization and aseptic technique:
Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautionsKnowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean and sterile surgical instruments, equipment and suppliesKnowledge of or experience in equipment, such as ultrasonic cleaner and autoclaves. Understand of the processes to maintain the autoclaveOther responsibilities:
Compiles and prepares surgical packs. Runs autoclave as neededAssist with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies as well as cleaning the procedure roomsPerforms medical assistant duties as required for non-Mohs patients, as part of the dermatology practice. i.e giving injectionsDirectly responsible for scheduling patients and manages the MOHS surgery scheduleProvides post procedure care including surgical dressing changes and assisting with suture removalDemonstrates a working knowledge of insurance and pre-certification requirementsDemonstrates customer service skills when communicating with peers/other departmentsLogs surgical procedures as neededCommunicates problems to Physician/Supervisor/ManagementMust have your own transportation and be willing to work in MOHS office locationsPerforms various clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing and mailing'sRecognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assignedRelay pathology and laboratory results to patientsQualifications
Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, LPN, CDT, or Surgical Techs in a Dermatology, Mohs Surgery, or other surgical setting is strongly preferred, but not requiredKnowledge of medical terminology a must and previous dermatology and skin care treatment is preferredWorking knowledge of aseptic techniques and sterilization practicesExperience with EHR and Practice Management SystemPhlebotomy certification, preferred
