Ensures that instruments and supplies are cleaned, sterilized and available as needed. Provides hands on assisting with Mohs procedures and wound closures/repairs. Assists with lab/pathology processing of Mohs specimens. This includes accurately preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the Mohs surgeon. In addition, the surgical technologist will assist the dermatologist providers in day to day dermatology patient flow.Position Reports To:

Practice ManagerEssential Functions:Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure.Assists Mohs surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.Sets up procedure room, according to prescribed standards.Assists Mohs surgeon throughout the procedure with instruments, and providing hands on assistance, according to prescribed standards.Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site.Takes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages. Label and organize photographs.Handles specimens for pathology according to prescribed standards. Sterilization and aseptic technique.Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.Knowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean and sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.Assist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing.Prepares microscopic tissue slides for the Mohs Surgeon, including processing, embedding, cutting and staining of frozen tissue specimens.Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.Other duties as assigned.Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.

Qualifications:Required:High school graduate or GED.Accredited Medical Assisting program graduate, or enrolled in externship program.Active Medical Assistant Interim (IC) or Medical Assistant - Certified (CM) license through the Washington State Department of Health.WA State Surgical Tech Registration.

Desired:Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting.

Work is performed at a work station desk and in patient exam and treatment rooms, where space may be limited and confined. Requires a combination of working independently and also working closely with others. Hours may be irregular at times; overtime may be required. Requires working under stressful conditions. General supervision is provided by the Practice Manager with additional instructions, guidance, and directions provided by the physicians or providers with whom the Medical Assistant is working.Job Classification:
