Job Description
The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Associate Dean of Medical School Admissions, Advising, and Student Life.
This leadership role will oversee the admissions process, student advising, and the overall student experience by ensuring a supportive and engaging environment for all medical students. The Senior Associate Dean will report directly to the Vice Dean of Education. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education and will work collaboratively with staff, students, and the Department of Culture and Belonging to enhance academic and social experiences at the School of Medicine.
This individual will directly supervise the Associate Dean of Admissions, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
Key Responsibilities:• Lead and manage the admissions process - including the development of recruitment strategies, selection criteria, and evaluation processes - to attract a diverse and qualified student body.• Oversight of the advising program by ensuring that students receive comprehensive support throughout their medical education, including academic advising, career counseling, and personal development resources.• Foster a vibrant student life experience by promoting engagement in extracurricular activities, wellness initiatives, and community service opportunities.• Collaborate with faculty and administration to successfully implement programs and services that enhance student experience and support student success.• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of admission and student support initiatives by using data-driven approaches to inform decision-making and strategic planning.• Work closely with the Department of Culture and Belonging to ensure equitable and inclusive access and support for all students.• Represent the School of Medicine at regional and national admissions and student affairs meetings.• Participate in both the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to admissions, student conduct, and academic standards.

Required Qualifications
Education• Doctoral degree (MD, DO) in a relevant field.
Experience• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical education, admissions, student affairs, or a related area, with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by medical students.• Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.• Experience in developing a smooth process for guiding students through residency applications and the residency match process.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across various constituencies - is a critical requirement.• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education.• Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards in undergraduate medical education.• Experience in policy creation and implementation.
