The South Dakota Department of Revenue is seeking an individual to provide front-line customer service and clerical support as a Senior Secretary in the Aberdeen office. This individual will work with a team of tax consultants. Some of the job duties include:
greeting customers;answering and routing phone calls;establishing and maintaining computerized and/or manual files;receipting money;data entry;imaging documents;assisting walk-in customers with completing applications;processing incoming and outgoing mail;making changes to taxpayer accounts based upon information received from taxpayers and from tax program staff; andanswering inquiries from taxpayers regarding tax obligations.In addition to the above job duties this position will also be the lead contact for sales tax collections for special events which includes explaining which taxes apply, working with event coordinators to distribute tax returns, gather vendor lists and perform follow-up collections when needed along with being assigned special projects where they will need to make decisions and work independently.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:Excellent communication, customer service, teamwork, organization, and computer skills. Must be able to handle possible stressful situations and switch quickly from one task to another. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are also important in this position.
Knowledge of:
Business English including grammar, spelling, and punctuation;modern office equipment, practices, and procedures; andMicrosoft Office Suite.Ability to:
communicate information clearly and accurately;prioritize work, maintain confidentiality, and work with diverse individuals;establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and office team members;accomplish assigned professional tasks;organize and coordinate activities;research and compile data;exercise tact, patience, and discretion in communicating and dealing with persons of varying backgrounds and temperament;operate a variety of office equipment;enter or retrieve data from computer systems; andmake logical decisions to help customers.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
