JOB SUMMARYFirst and foremost, the Registered Nurses (RN) at MHSC serves as patient advocate. Registered Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients or populations of patients through the application of the nursing process, standards of practice, standards of care and adherence to regulatory and professional practice acts. Registered Nurses at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) work in a variety of settings including Clinics, Outpatient care, Inpatient care, Informatics, Quality, Education and Leadership.Each RN is accountable for practicing within his/her scope of practice as defined by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. Each RN reports to a Director of a service and then ultimately to the Chief Nursing Officer of the organization. Each RN is responsible for his/her practice under one's own RN licensure. RNs may oversight care for certified nursing assistants and delegate care to qualified individuals per the Wyoming State Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act. RNs are accountable to, responsible for and have authority over their own practice as a licensed professional.The House Supervisor is responsible for the first line leadership of the entire organization of MHSC during the night shifts during weekdays and day and night shifts on weekends and holidays. At a minimum, House Supervisors are responsible for the oversight clinical care and issues for short term solutions, engage in collaborative problem solving between departments, assist physicians with care issues and communication concerns. House Supervisors work within MHSC organizational standards and assist with regulatory and compliance issues. House Supervisors participate on teams to develop and implement programs, evaluate standards, give feedback on staff evaluations and competencies, and use the chain of command for any level of problem solving that is needed. In summary, the House Supervisor serves as the person in authority when senior leaders are not on the premises during the nights, weekends and holidays.
JOB QUALIFICATIONSEducation:High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, which is most commonly ACEN and/or CCNE. Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred. If a graduate of an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), a BSN must be attained within 6 years of starting the position. If a graduate of a 3-year diploma program, educational and certification programs may be required within a pre-determined time period as determined by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). House Supervisors will be currently licensed and in good standing as a Registered Nurse by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. Competency requirements are determined per clinical areas. House Supervisors are to have ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification. Certification in specialty is encouraged and may be required at any time to the discretion of the CNO and/or other members of Senior Leadership.
Job Knowledge and Skills:Understands and appropriately applies the ethical, legal and moral principles, scope of nursing practice, standards of nursing practice and standards of nursing care in all patient care situations.Understands and applies the levels of nursing expertise according Benner's Novice to Expert: Novice, Advanced Beginner, Competent, Proficient, and Expert when making decisions on staffing to ensure optimal patient outcomes while at the same time protecting each nurse's professional license.Demonstrates clinical competency and proficiency commensurate with specialty or practice field of nursing and according to years of experience as a RN.
