OverviewThe Communications Senior Manager will focus on creating and executing communications strategies that promote Fifth Third’s Information Technology (IT) strategy, business objectives and leadership. The Senior Manager is a strategic thinker and skilled communicator who can provide communications counsel and advice, craft compelling narratives, and execute communications strategies with precision. The Senior Manager is both a leader and a doer, capable of driving communications initiatives from conception to completion.
This role involves a high degree of relationship-building with Fifth Third senior leaders across business lines and corporate functions to ensure alignment across messages and priorities. The ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of Fifth Third’s business priorities with current events, disciplined plan execution with attention to detail, and drive to achieve measurable results.
Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Communications: Develop and implement comprehensive internal communications strategies that align with the IT department’s goals and objectives. Partner with Information Technology (IT) leadership and/or cross-functional Bank partners to execute strategic communications deliverables and tactics.
Advisory Role: Serve as a trusted advisor to IT leadership, providing expert communications counsel and advice. Build credibility with IT, cross-functional colleagues, and the Communications team by demonstrating strong business acumen, effective communication, expert content creation and flawless execution.
Content Creation: Craft high-quality written content that tells the story, including internal emails, feature stories for the company Intranet, blog posts, organizational announcements, talking points, video scripts, presentations and awards submissions.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both within the IT department and across the organization.
Writing: Write strategic communications material that connects to the Bank’s priorities and culture. Communicate clearly, consistently and accurately across a variety of channels. Have a passion for great writing and share that passion and expertise with the team. Elevate quality of others' writing to tell effective stories with edits that make copy tighter, stronger, more compelling.
Crisis Communication: Develop and execute crisis communication plans to manage and mitigate potential issues if/as needed.
Project Management: Lead and manage communications projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
Measurement and Analysis: Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust as needed to achieve desired outcomes. Review and analyze metrics/data to discover trends and make informed recommendations. Continually integrate new technology tools and best practices to increase impact and efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide guidance, mentoring and training to more junior staff, but has no formal supervisory responsibility.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in banking and/or financial services strongly preferred. Prior experience supporting internal communications strongly preferred.
10+ years of experience with deep understanding of corporate communications and the highly developed inter-connectivity of internal communications, executive communications, PR, events, thought leadership, and social media.
Experience with a range of internal communications channels, including corporate intranet, email, video/webinar, in-office activations, etc.
Experience working with and building effective relationships at all levels of employees and leaders across the organization, including the C-suite and executive team.
Strong executive presence that inspires trust and confidence; ability to work with discretion and exercise sound judgment independently.
Ability to deliver against tight deadlines when they arise, resolve issues, and propose solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Highly flexible; able to quickly respond to changing or unanticipated needs and mobilize accordingly.
Strategic problem solver who can look around corners to identify potential obstacles and design thoughtful, creative solutions.
Demonstrated ability to build and execute impactful integrated programs using multiple channels to achieve stated strategic objectives with measurable outcomes.
Exceptional skills in the following categories: writing, editing and project management.
Intellectual ability and presence to earn the respect and attention of key internal partners, balanced with a sense of humor.
