Software Development Manager, DynamoDB
Amazon, Indiana, Pennsylvania, us, 15705
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Want to shape the future of a NoSQL database service that supports mission-critical workloads operating at more than 20 million requests per second? How about we make it (even) faster?
Amazon DynamoDB is one of the largest distributed database systems in the market, yet we continue to believe it is Day 1 for the DynamoDB business. We are looking for a technical leader for an elite team of developers committed to the goal of growing the DynamoDB business by ten times over the next two years.
The DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) team's charter is to provide an in-memory caching service that makes reading data from DynamoDB even faster for our customers, improving the already fast response times of DynamoDB up to ten times—from milliseconds to microseconds—even at millions of requests per second.
As a relatively new product feature, DAX adoption is continuing to grow, however customers face hurdles as DAX is not serverless. As a result, we’re looking for entrepreneurial-focused individuals who not only want to build a fantastic distributed serverless cache for DynamoDB, but also who can deliver results withh quality, set future direction, lead, and influence how caching for DynamoDB should evolve to better meet customer needs.
Engineers say DynamoDB is a technically challenging space that requires innovative solutions. As an engineering manager in the DynamoDB team, you will build, lead, and grow an amazing team of software developers to solve technical problems for which there are no easy answers.
You will closely partner with our product management team to better understand customer needs, to regularly solicit feedback from key customers, and to set the vision of how to evolve the product going forward.
You will own setting your team's roadmap. You also will own ensuring that the serverless cache is continually operating at the scale and with the high availability, reliability, and security that AWS customers expect—and at the microsecond-level speeds that our customers need.
If the intersection of core computer science and product vision intrigues you, this might be the right place for you.

Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
