Job Title: Buyer / Planner
Job Description
Proactively find solutions to material shortages by pursuing alternatives and ensuring current procurement methods to maintain a constant supply of material to the value stream while optimizing inventory levels. Review material reports (shortage, MRP, kanban, etc.) to ensure that the execution of all purchase orders are completed in a timely manner and pulled in according to build rate and forecast. Contact, communicate, negotiate, and collaborate with the supply chain daily to create awareness of all material needs and issues pertaining to open orders. Take on additional duties that require a greater degree of independent judgment and analysis.
Responsibilities
Procure and plan all materials, products, and services for assigned cells.
Create spreadsheets as required.
Work with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other internal resources to identify suppliers who can provide products that meet organizational quality standards and commercial requirements.
Maintain open communication and a strong functional relationship with all suppliers through verbal and written communication.
Communicate and escalate needs related to part shortages or concerns needed to satisfy customers' on-time shipments.
Maintain knowledge of organizational processes, techniques, business strategy, new products, tools, and equipment.
Work closely with Sourcing and other Planner/Buyers to develop supplier agreements that enhance company initiatives and goals while creating more robust business partnerships.
Monitor and update all purchase orders to ensure that all pricing, delivery dates, quantities, etc., are correct and current.
Work with Accounting and Receiving regarding all pricing, delivery, and receipt issues. Follow through on root cause action items. Report as required.
Work with Materials and Sourcing teams to set up and maintain the Kanban CAD system for material release to suppliers and material flow to the point of use.
Maintain inventory charts and conduct daily reviews.
Take on additional responsibilities and objectives as needed based on business and area needs.
Essential Skills
2+ years of experience in material purchasing within a lean manufacturing environment.
Experience with MRP and Kanban.
Proficiency in purchasing, scheduling, and manufacturing planning.
Strong skills in MS Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
A.S. or B.S. Degree
Experience with supply chain management.
Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
The position operates within a manufacturing shop floor setting with one shift operation, consisting of 100+ employees.
The work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. The dress code is business casual.
