Employee Relations Specialist
Location Grand Rapids, MI Cincinnati, OH Dayton, OH
Job Summary The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for assisting leaders in managing and resolving complex employee relations issues, providing guidance on policy interpretation and application, and promoting a positive work environment. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships with employees at all levels, and a deep understanding of employment law and HR best practices.
Primary Functions Coach and advise leaders regarding employee relations issues including employee development needs, performance issues, accommodation requests, retaliation, and terminations. Provide appropriate guidance that balances the needs of the business with compliance; identifies when risk/legal resources should be engaged to navigate complex and/or high-risk issues. Ensures situations and any related disciplinary documentation is handled in a consistent and fair fashion for all employees. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective workplace investigations, including the preparation of appropriate documentation. Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation. Conduct timely exit interviews. Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. Track data around employee relations and exit interviews to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve employee performance and retention. Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risk and ensuring compliance. Assist with writing and dissemination of staff-related communications. Help manage annual and ad-hoc compensation adjustments and bonus. Perform duties in collaboration with the HR Operations team, the Risk Management Department, the Business Transformation Department, and others as appropriate and/or directed.
Minimum Physical Requirements Mobility to work in an office e setting, use standard office equipment, visual acuity to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Desired Education/Licensure Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Desired Skills/Experience
Proven experience handling employee relations across all levels of an organization. In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR practices. Experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
