Role Purpose Statement
Drive the development, implementation, and management of Employee and Ramp Safety programs to cultivate a proactive safety culture. Provide strategic direction and policy recommendations for regional safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with corporate standards. Champion continuous improvement efforts to enhance employee safety and operational excellence.
Main Accountabilities
Business Strategy, Policies, and Tools
Lead Safety Culture Transformation: Drive a shift towards a safety-focused culture across the Americas Region by integrating Human Factors to address human error and risk awareness.
Ensure Compliance with Customer Safety Standards: Oversee adherence to customer-specific and airline safety standards at CSCs, maintaining a proactive approach to meeting client expectations and addressing customer audits as well as maintaining customer relations with the corresponding safety organizations as well as customer leadership teams
Interface with Regulatory Agencies: Serve as the primary liaison with key agencies, including OSHA, to ensure compliance, address inquiries, and support regulatory audits and inspections.
Develop Compliance Leadership: Coach regional leaders to model safety behaviors and cultivate a deep-rooted compliance culture.
Build Collaborative Safety Networks: Strengthen connections among Safety Process Owners to share insights, address roadblocks, and enhance regional safety practices.
Employee & Ramp Safety
Integrate Human Factors in Safety: Guide leaders to embed Human Factors into safety processes, reducing incidents by addressing root causes of human error.
Set and Drive Safety Goals: Develop and implement targeted action plans to reduce injuries and improve safety metrics, ensuring accountability across teams.
Embed Safety Across Functions: Partner with departments to incorporate safety protocols into workflows, increasing awareness and compliance.
Conduct Audits and Root Cause Analysis: Lead safety assessments, identify improvement areas through root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Manage Corporate Programs and Training: Oversee the safety shoe program and develop focused, relevant safety training based on Human Factors principles.
Monitor Incident Trends: Use predictive analytics to analyze incidents, identifying areas for risk reduction and ongoing safety improvement.
Support Strategic Initiatives: Integrate safety into corporate projects, including new business and Lean Manufacturing, ensuring safety remains central.
Leadership
Optimize Safety Operations: Ensure safety teams are effectively organized, staffed, and directed to meet regional needs.
Advise the Americas ELT: Serve as a key safety advisor, providing insights to guide strategic decision-making.
Represent Safety in Customer Relations: Lead safety-focused discussions with customers, ensuring alignment with client standards.
Develop and Empower Teams: Motivate and mentor direct and indirect reports, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.
Manage Budget and Resources: Oversee budget planning and control, adjusting as needed to meet financial goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Operational and Safety Experience: Minimum of seven years of experience in operations and/or safety management, with a strong track record in leading safety initiatives.
Workers’ Compensation Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of workers’ compensation insurance programs and claims processes, including injury reporting and management.
Regulatory Compliance Expertise: In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, including OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, DOT, and applicable State OSHA Plans, with a proven ability to ensure compliance across operations.
Project Management Proficiency: Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, alongside knowledge of maintenance and manufacturing/production standards and challenges.
Safety Literacy: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply safety standards, metrics, and best practices to promote a safety-focused culture.
Language and communication: Excellent language and writing abilities; Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
Technical: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office – ability to prepare and deliver executive level presentations
