GBTA is the platform for industry buyers, suppliers, and policy makers to come together to tackle all the changes in business travel, bringing many perspectives together under one roof. Our premiere annual convention draws 6,000 attendees in the US, while our regional conferences throughout the world bring together up to 1500 throughout the year. Our association is based on the pillars of Community, Learning, and Advocacy. Our connected charitable arm, the GBTA Foundation, serves our global constituents and the general public in the areas of People and Planet.
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced senior leader to oversee our global marketing, communications, and research areas for GBTA and the GBTA Foundation. The role will lead a team of marketing, PR/communications, and research professionals; as well as direct our strategic efforts towards revenue growth, constituent expansion and engagement, and global success through great marketing and thought leadership across our domestic and international operations.
The ideal SVP-Marketing candidate is passionate about marketing strategy and operations, research in driving thought leadership, and PR/Communications – and have demonstrated success leading teams on brand/product/channel marketing strategy, integrated marketing processes, market and customer dynamics, communications/PR, and original research. They will preferably have both agency and client-side experience. They need to be able to balance practical business acumen and goal/measurement frameworks with a creative mindset to lead their team and work with peers in the strategizing and delivery of GBTA marketing and messaging within a busy, matrixed, global environment.
Ultimately, this SVP’s measure of success is driving value-driven outcomes through marketing, communications and research for our team, suppliers/supporters, members and constituents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Defines marketing, PR & communications, and research strategies to support the association’s overall strategy, objectives and key results, and leads their team in planning and delivering measurable marketing and research excellence within B2B, B2C, and B2B2C scenarios.
Drives overall customer management and growth – including persona definition, lead gen management, content management for acquisition and retention purposes. This includes, for business travel buyers, growing our base of members to expand within sectors such as SMB and younger professionals, and for industry suppliers, cementing GBTA as the premiere business travel industry “marketing agency” – all while nurturing relationships, developing trust in our ROI, and growing investment, engagement and support for our products, events and thought leadership avenues. SVP-Marketing in conjunction with Business Development, is expected to develop strategies for new sponsor acquisition and retention and ensuring sustained revenue growth by presenting valuable new products and ROI metrics to the customer.
With their team and third-party partnerships, organizes on-time/on-budget strategies and deliverables (e.g., competitive analysis, brand management, marketing communications, product marketing, digital, social, PR, Research, etc.), and ensures they project the Association’s and Foundation’s unique, forward-looking industry voice with measurable results. Oversees the design of integrated marketing and other efforts across digital, social and on-site channels to increase acquisition and retention efforts as well as stakeholder reach (attendance/registrations, event sponsorships and expo, membership, academy, research, etc.). Oversees research strategy in both publicly distributed as well as private-consulting research scenarios supporting our industry sponsors in their marketing goals with new products/topics, while delivering thought leadership insights to help the industry, our members and team better understand the changing market dynamics of business travel.
Provides ongoing dept. reporting, develops actionable insights, tests, and experiments with new initiatives. Measures the performance of marketing activities and campaigns (including lead generation and conversion), assessing them against goals and adjusting strategy and activities to achieve them.
Collaborates regularly and consistently with Executive Leadership Team (ELT) peers (Biz Dev, Americas, EMEA/APAC, Foundation, Finance/Administration) to achieve overarching goals.

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or relevant field. MBA with marketing concentration helpful. Suitable work experience and proven areas of success a viable substitute for education requirements.
Proven success as SVP/VP/head of marketing or in a similarly broad marketing leadership role – leading a large team of diverse skills and responsibilities, and exercising creative, strategic and operational programs and projects with proven results. Marketing agency and client-side experience preferred.
Minimum 10 years managing a full service marketing team, with at least 3 years in either a trade association or travel/events industry role.
Excellent communication, collaboration, strategic, analytical skills. Doesn’t mind doing the work, creating and delivering the presentation, leading by example, rolling up their sleeves.
Talented people manager and talent scout, building teams who love working together and within a broader matrix – to achieve amazing results together across several time zones.
P&L Management experience – proven experience in setting and meeting complex expense budgets and revenue requirements associated with marketing initiatives and broader organizational growth. Skilled at setting ambitious OKRs and achieving them.
Strong technical skills, including cloud-based systems. Must have a high level of skills in MS Office Suite, virtual meetings, marketing technology platforms like Pardot, and Salesforce or other CRM.
Superior organization skills, and an ability to manage multiple projects in a super-fast paced environment.
US based, remote.
PREFFERED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Travel/meetings industry and/or trade association experience a plus.
Multi-lingual is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
GBTA is currently fully remote.
Prolonged periods sitting/remaining stationary at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to remain stationary and move for long periods of time, during events.
Must be able to work a variety of hours in order to accommodate various meetings and events.
