UCLA Alumni Affairs seeks a proven leader, collaborative partner and strong manager to serve as our Chief of Staff, Alumni Engagement. In this critical role, you will provide staff and program oversight for our Alumni Communities & Engagement Pathways, Professional Programs & Services, Diversity Programs & Initiatives, Affinity Networks & Leadership Development and Alumni Career Engagement teams. As an experienced administrator, you will lead your teams to determine, implement, expand and enhance wide-reaching strategies for volunteer/alumni based programs of significant impact that bring awareness and unification in the active engagement we employ with our 660,000 alumni. Working closely with our Associate Vice Chancellor, you will work to achieve broadly stated program goals and will enhance program objectives by developing strategies and policies and managing human, financial and other resources with a high degree of autonomy. Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
Minimum of ten years of professional experience in alumni engagement, program management, strategic planning, or related function/field. (Required)
Extensive knowledge of UCLA and the short- and long-term strategic plans, vision, goals, objectives, programs, infrastructure and achievements of the campus, specifically those of Alumni Affairs. (Required)
Advanced knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education with ability to quickly and thoroughly understand the changing higher education landscape in relation to all aspects of UCLA’s mission, long-term objectives and key strategic plans. (Required)
Thorough knowledge of alumni and other key constituencies, ability to create and implement innovative programs; skill in intuiting and addressing external concerns while ensuring appropriate support for campus concerns and issues. (Required)
Thorough knowledge of management principles, including personnel and budget administration; strong supervisory skills to hire, train, oversee and evaluate staff; ability to guide and ensure production of high quality work within time and budget constraints. (Required)
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication and leadership skills, including active listening skills and skill to think quickly and respond appropriately. (Required)
Excellent skills in advocating for and representing UCLA and Alumni Affairs to its various publics; advanced skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations of priorities and goals. (Required)
Excellent analytical, negotiation, and political acumen skills; ability to make decisions, be resourceful, implement and follow through. (Required)
Excellent skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive and effective long and short-term strategic communications and marketing plans; thorough knowledge and understanding of all facets of communications to guide efforts and staff in projects. (Required)
Thorough knowledge of market research and of current/emerging marketing trends and best practices including digital strategies/technologies. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to serve different audiences and to work to build consensus among team members; excellent skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications including dealing effectively with sensitive or complex issues of information. (Required)
Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as other applications, programs and databases; demonstrated experience with web and new media technology. (Required)
Mature judgement; impeccable integrity and excellent skills to establish and environment of confidentiality and handle sensitive matters in a discreet manner. (Required)
