AvMet Applications, Inc. (AvMet) is recruiting for a Software Engineer who is self-motivated and detail-oriented with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude to join our team of scientists, engineers, and researchers. AvMet staff have a wide range of backgrounds and experience from air traffic controllers and commercial pilots to operational meteorologists and systems engineers. AvMet’s work domain ranges from program management support to large-scale data manipulation, modeling, and analysis.The successful candidate will be part of a team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) projects. The candidate will primarily develop and implement effective software for cloud and web-based applications. In addition, the candidate will develop or contribute to solutions to a variety of software problems of moderate scope and complexity.This position requires strong problem-solving skills focused on software development. This position also requires the ability to work independently and in team-based environments with some guidance.The candidate must be able to manage multiple tasks and convey a professional image in client meetings.Minimum Qualifications:

B.A./B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline (from an accredited college or university) and 4-10 years of relevant professional experience*Proficiency in PythonExperience with Cloud (AWS), web development, and other Web ServicesUnderstanding of NoSQL and relational databasesSolid understanding of software architecture and scalabilityFamiliarity with XML and JSONExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to learn quickly and work effectively as part of a team or individuallyAbility to manage multiple prioritiesMust be legally able to work in the United States without sponsorshipDesirable Qualifications:

Interest in and/or knowledge of aviationExperience in C, C++Experience in Linux and Windows environmentsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook)Knowledge of aviation operations (e.g., flight operations, air traffic control, etc.) and associated data setsKnowledge of FAA and National Weather Service aviation weather programsFamiliarity with NASA aviation research programs** Note: Relevant professional experience must consist of full-time employment that is neither an institutional assistantship nor a co-op position.
