Empire State University seeks an experienced and accomplished leader to serve as the Inaugural Dean for our upcoming College of Education. The Dean will have a broad range of responsibilities including program growth and development, content delivery, academic quality, fund raising, and supervision of college faculty and staff. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in leading institutional innovation and growth, online content delivery to adult learners, and enrollment management, as well as an authentic commitment to shared governance. Specifically, the college is seeking a leader to advance, shape, and implement a collective vision and strategic plan; grow research and innovation; build productive relationships; identify and develop new programs; and increase enrollment; and attract, recruit, and retain skilled faculty and staff. The Dean will be the chief administrative and academic officer for the College of Education and will report directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Representative duties include:
Student Success: Lead efforts to empower diverse learners through online education, individualized support, and credit for prior learning.
Strategic Planning: Ability to lead and implement the strategic plan to enhance student retention, success, and program growth.
Research and Scholarship: Support faculty research by creating a collaborative and innovative environment that promotes professional development.
Academic and Administrative Leadership: Advance university initiatives as part of the provost's team, creating a positive environment for faculty and staff while effectively allocating the College of Education finances.
Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, timely data reporting, and active participation in accreditation processes.
External Engagement and Partnerships: Represent the College at university events and promote partnerships with community colleges, corporate entities, and educational stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field.
At least 5 years in a leadership role within an academic institution with a proven track record of successful higher education leadership.
Demonstrated experience in online education, including the development and delivery of online programs; teaching and enhancing learning experiences for students.
Proven track record of successful strategic planning including budgeting, program development, and administration.
Experience with accreditation processes and maintaining compliance with educational and certification standards and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 10 years of leadership experience in higher education, preferably within a College of Education.
Strong record of scholarly work and conference presentations.
Experience with policy implementation with a focus on education.
Experience with clinical sitework.
Experience with building and cultivating partnerships with external stakeholders.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across educational policy, practice, research, and leadership.
Ability to attract funding through multiple channels including grants, corporate funding, and federal and state programs.
General understanding of working within a unionized environment.
Special Information:
Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide commitments.
Some evening and/or weekend engagement with stakeholders is required.
The position is based in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Rank/Salary: This is a Management/Confidential position. Salary range $160,000 - $170,000.
