About This Role
Alumni Ventures seeks an experienced and dynamic
VP of Sales
to lead our sales efforts, combining direct sales contributions with team leadership. This role is split between individual sales responsibilities and guiding a seasoned team of three Senior Partners (SPs).
50% of your time
will be spent engaging directly with inbound qualified prospects, educating them about our fund offerings, and explaining the benefits of venture capital. You will lead these calls, demonstrating best practices in client engagement, to convert prospects into committed investors.
25% of your time
will be spent nurturing high-value relationships, particularly with
Diamond Club members , through small group meetings, virtual chats, dinners, and other personalized interactions. This part of the role focuses on high-touch relationship-building and increasing engagement with our most valuable customers and prospects.
25% of your time
will be dedicated to managing, mentoring, and inspiring your team of three experienced Senior Partners. Each has over four years at AV and brings substantial knowledge to the table. You will provide coaching, align their efforts with AV’s goals, and work to improve their sales performance, to increase the close rate from ~22% to 30% in the next year. As part of this effort, you will work with leadership to identify and evaluate new tools and software to optimize sales performance and client interactions.
What you'll do
Sales Contribution:
Spend 50% of your time engaging in direct sales calls, educating inbound prospects about AV’s fund offerings and the venture capital space. Lead by example to achieve sales targets.
High-Touch Client Engagement:
Dedicate 25% of your time to building deep relationships with key clients, especially
Diamond Club members , through small group settings, virtual chats, and personalized interactions. Focus on enhancing customer loyalty and engagement.
Team Leadership & Coaching:
Manage and mentor three Senior Partners, providing guidance and support to enhance performance. Set targets and work to increase the close rate from ~22% to 30% within the next 12 months.
Executive Liaison:
Serve as a key link between the executive team and the sales organization, ensuring your team has the latest information and strategies to successfully close deals in a fast-paced environment.
Training & Development:
Lead the ongoing training and development of the SP team, helping them refine their sales techniques and improve performance.
Cross-functional Alignment:
Share insights and best practices with other teams, including Managing Partners, to align efforts and enhance sales outcomes across the organization.
Sales Technology Evaluation:
Work with leadership to identify and evaluate new tools and software to optimize sales performance and client interactions.
Requirements:
Proven success in a direct sales role, preferably within financial services or high-growth industries.
Experience managing and coaching a team to improve sales performance and meet ambitious targets.
Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple responsibilities and effectively communicating across teams.
Data-driven approach to setting and achieving sales targets in a metrics-driven environment.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and mentor team members.
Experience in venture capital or financial services is a plus.
Hybrid office schedule (4 days on site) with occasional travel. Preferred location at our headquarters in Manchester, NH. Candidates in Greater Boston and NYC will also be considered.
Base Salary commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonus + equity + benefits
