Department Summary

The Career Center offers services to help students explore career pathways, create competitive resumes, develop interviewing and networking skills, find and apply for internships and jobs, consider graduate school, and more. We also offer opportunities to connect with employers, such as career fairs, networking events, information sessions, on-campus interviewing, as well as job and internship listings.

Position Summary

The Associate Director is part of the Career Center leadership team which advises and supports the Executive Director in the overall management of the Center's operation, focusing specifically on employer engagement, internship and industry experiences. Specific activities include contributing to decisions determining the scope and nature of services, organizational and strategic planning, revenue generation, staffing, vendor selection, campus and employer relations, contract negotiation, and a $4 million annual budget. The Associate Director designs strategic job/internship development initiatives, leads the leveraging of the Center's career services management platform (CSM) in functionalities related to employer accounts, job and internship postings, campus interviewing, career fair and information session management (i.e. all recruitment related functions). The AD generates reports for internal and customer access, and directs all facets of customer services with a team of individuals cross-trained to support both student counseling intake and employer relations reception/response. This position oversees all employer outreach/expansion and initiatives to include but not be limited to regional, national, and international job/internship development and employer services; on-campus recruitment program - an extensive portfolio of career fairs and networking events, and special projects and programs. Responsible for the oversight and continuous development of the two major revenue lines of business, which currently generate approximately $750,000. The Associate Director contributes to and helps track Center-wide outreach efforts, as well as maintains key inter-departmental campus relations. The AD will also lead all campus efforts to increase experiential learning opportunities, with the goal of ensuring all UCLA students have the opportunity to access internships and experiential opportunities.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience supervising exempt and non-exempt staff, student staff, and temporary employees. (Required)Ability to design and modify computer applications and to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills. (Required)Demonstrated skills in training, supervising, and motivating staff responsible for revenue-generating lines of business and customer support. (Required)Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement projects with complex logistics involving multiple tasks and priorities. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. (Required)Knowledge of occupational, career and job information resources, technology and materials. Expertise in labor market, employment trends, and recruiting strategies and techniques. (Required)Ability to communicate and market the services and programs of the Center to potential students, current students, employers, faculty and administrators. (Required)Ability to support and maintain critical long-term liaison relationships with diverse populations and organizations on behalf of the Career Center. (Required)Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). (Required)Experience using the various recruiting modules of the NACElink platform and using CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and/or sales prospecting software systems. (Required)Experience sourcing and cultivating employer contacts, designing products and customized strategies to support their campus relations and recruiting initiatives. (Required)Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. (Required)Knowledge of UC Programs, career services, employer, alumni, and needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends. (Preferred)

Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
