Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Performance Engineer Intern will provide analytical support for Calpine’s 27GW fleet of natural gas power plants, covering many aspects of thermal performance including plant diagnostics, equipment optimization and testing. Interns’ project results will be used to support business decisions for operations as well capital investment projects. Exact projects will be subject to the interns’ individual skills and interests, the following is broad sampling of available business needs.
Provide plant and rotating equipment performance assessments including identification of improvement opportunities.
Support performance testing activities where needed
Support thermodynamic model development
Cost Benefit Analysis regarding plant upgrades and maintenance.
Position reports to Director, Performance Optimization
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications include completion of sophomore year and at least 30 credit hours towards bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited university or college.
In good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future.
Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Programing skills i.e. Visual Basic or Python, is preferred
Strong Excel skills (Vlookup, Sumifs, Pivot Tables, Macros)
Demonstrated modeling aptitude creating complex Excel models.
Ability to apply analytical tools such as Tableau
Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the power or utility sector, is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good problem solving and analytical ability
Good organization skills and attention to details are essential
Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others in a dynamic environment.
Must be able to self-start and manage multiple simultaneous tasks and priorities.
Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
