Senior Business Analyst

The incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing, and deploying academic information systems and other enterprise systems, as well as enhancing existing systems to address both administrative and academic needs. Projects will focus on supporting the management of academic appointments and advancements, academic research compliance, HR, financial systems and others.
The incumbent will present materials and lead group discussions with departmental staff, subject matter experts, HR, lab personnel, focus groups, and senior management, including the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, and the Vice and Associate Deans of Academic Affairs for all UCSF Professional Schools and HR managers/directors. The role also oversees the activities of technical programmers and analysts working on the Advance Faculty Information System (Advance) and other enterprise and departmental systems, providing input for their performance evaluations. The role will periodically project manage small initiatives, such as business application development.
This position requires applying advanced business process and analytical skills to help achieve organizational objectives. It includes resolving highly complex issues through in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. The incumbent selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve results. Proficiency in SQL or other data analytics tools for extracting and interpreting data is essential.
A key part of this role is collaborating with other UCSF business units and working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical personnel. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for fostering effective communication across diverse groups, including the vendor professional services team.
The incumbent reports to the Director of Enterprise Digital and Web Solutions (EDAWS) and works closely with the Application Manager of EDAWS.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $180,000 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area and / or equivalent experience/training
5+ years of relevant progressive experience
Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
Proven experience in process analysis and design, systems analysis, requirements documentation, and implementation planning. Familiarity with methodologies like Waterfall, Agile, Agile Scrum, and UML, and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Lucidchart, and Enterprise Architect.
Expertise in software design principles and frameworks, modification, and implementation methodologies. Proficiency with Visio, Lucidchart, Git, Jira, Smartsheet, and Confluence.
Expertise in conducting user research and distilling insights into actionable strategies that balance user needs and business objectives.
Strong problem-solving skills, testing, and test planning skills.
Proven experience in project management.
Strong understanding of related IT areas.
Ability to work with diverse teams, lead cross-functional groups, and present to executives.
Self-motivated, capable of independent work and team collaboration. Effective at ensuring work is completed to scope, within budget, and on time.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to foster a collaborative team environment where open communication and idea sharing are encouraged.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in Business or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Agile certification
Experience with IT in large organizations, including software evaluation, procurement, installation, and support.
Knowledge of Academic information systems, Academic Personnel Policy, HR Policy, Financial Processes, and Academic administration practices at UCSF or similar organizations.
