The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility of patients for a designated time frame and to provide care, specifically in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The patient population consists of those requiring an invasive cardiology or invasive radiology study. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide a valuable service to the patient and the team.Essential Functions: -Administers contrast material (when applicable), according to physician's request, by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. -All functions and duties will be under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist. -Assists with inventory/supplies. -Checks for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position. -Compiles pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab, pathology, etc. -Assists in instruction of new staff as necessary. -Documents accurately and completely. -Explains procedure to patient and provides for patient care- including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality. -Accurately informs procedural nurse of correct doses of intra-procedural medications, radiation and sponge/sharp counts. -Performs on call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet department needs. -Performs all essential functions of the Radiologic Technologist.Department-Specific Duties: -Administers and withholds contrast and treatment as appropriate. -Assess patients for allergies. -Peripheral Vascular work. -Venous Central Lines. -Tube Changes. -Embolization Work (Venous and Arterial). -Venous Thrombectomy Work. -Takes late shift duties as assigned to meet department needs. -Peripheral Vascular work. -Venous Central Lines. -Tube Changes. -Embolization Work (Venous and Arterial). -Venous Thrombectomy Work. -Experience with Interventional Neurology is preferred. -Dialysis work (AV Fistulas, Tunneled Dialysis Catheters, Peritoneal Dialysis Catheters). -Tube access and changes (G-tube, Chole, Neph, Biliary, Abscess, SPC). -Neuro (is ideal) (Cerebral arterial/venous, Kyphoplasty).Job Requirements
Required Skills & Experience: -Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care and procedures. -Ability to communicate effectively, follow directions, and complete detailed work accurately. -Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others. -Manual dexterity to handle small supplies.Preferred Skills & Experience: -Previous Radiologic Technology experience in a procedural setting.Department-Specific Skills & Experience: -Able to work around and maintain a sterile field during procedures. -Can pull supplies for procedures. -Experience with Interventional Neurology is preferred.
