St. John the Evangelist Parish in Jackson is now accepting resumes for a full-time Finance Manager. This position is non-exempt and reports to the Director of Parish Operations.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position assists the ministry of the parish by overseeing the financial activities of the parish, school, and cemetery. The finance manager directs these efforts with technical expertise within a framework of shared ministry and Catholic values. This position requires organization, problem-solving, team building, dependability, and punctuality. This position requires a solid understanding of accounting principles and processes as well as other administrative processes. The Finance Manager Supervises staff in all accounting-related functions (contributions, tuition collection, cafeteria sales, latch key income, cemetery accounting, fundraising programs, etc.).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare a yearly budget (in consultation with the pastor, staff leadership, and parish finance council), monthly accounting reports, and reports requested by the pastor or the parish finance council.Manage all banking activities including the accounting and banking of Sunday collections, payables, and receivables. Ensure timely payments and deposits.Manage and prepare all accounting, budgetary, fiscal, and statistical records, with particular attention to annual reports to the Diocese of Lansing and the parish, along with monthly reports to the parish staff and parish finance council.Prepare/manage all payroll functions.Serve as the staff liaison to the parish finance council and periodically report on the administrative status of the parish.Monitor and oversee budgetary compliance for all departments.Administer all parish personnel policies.Monitor all parish organization's financial activities.Oversee and manage the parish accounting specialist.Establish and maintain good working relationships with parish and school staff, volunteers, and members.Collaborate with the Director of Parish Operations to improve internal processes as needed.Assist the Director of Operations in vendor/supplier management.Other duties may be assigned on a project basis.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business.Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience as an administrator or manager of an office required. Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word required. Must have experience with accounting software (ParishSoft Accounting is a plus). Should understand Catholic parish organization.Required:
Must be able to work on-site with minimal travel.May require occasional evening and weekend work.Demonstrated experience in bookkeeping and other comptroller skills.Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.Strong problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with residents, staff, and vendors.Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and building codes.Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software.Preferred:

Physical Demands:
While performing duties, the finance manager will be sitting for extended periods, using hands in repetitive motion tasks, and answering telephone calls. The position also requires standing, stooping, and bending while filing.
