Role with the Company:
The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for the entire indirect tax compliance & reporting function for the company. Reports to the Tax Director/Head of Tax.
Responsibilities:
Oversee compliance and reporting of sales & use, gross receipts, direct pay, motor fuels excise, HEIT, and severance tax returns for company and affiliates.
Represents all entities in indirect tax audits initiated by the Texas Comptroller or other taxing authorities.
Identifies indirect tax refunds and tax savings opportunities for various entities.
Performs historical indirect tax exposure reviews.
Researches and advises leadership of tax implications on acquisitions and divestitures.
Develops and implements process improvements related to indirect tax matters.
Oversee processes related to obtaining and securing severance tax exemptions & refunds.
Works with and trains procurement & accounts payable departments on indirect tax matters.
Primary contact point for taxability questions from internal departments.
Manages unclaimed property compliance and audits.
Tax liaison for indirect tax 3rd party consultants.
Background Profile:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; Master’s degree a plus
CPA certification preferred
5+ years of indirect tax experience with sales and use tax, property tax, severance tax in an Oil & Gas company
Exploration and production company experience a plus
Thorough understanding of Texas Sales and Use Tax laws and procedures and filings
Experience researching laws and regulations to support tax decisions on complex issues involving transactions taxes in the U.S.
Hands-on self-starter with ability to work autonomously and design and implement procedures for all matters pertaining to Indirect Tax
Familiarity with ERP system Enertia, tax research tools/libraries such as: BNA, STARS a plus
