About the camp

Camp Pennyroyal is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Located 15 miles south of Owensboro, KY, this 180-acre camp includes an 8-acre lake, three year-round buildings, platform tents, screened cabins, and primitive camping areas. Pennyroyal is a variety of traditional camp activities including canoeing, kayaking, standup paddle boarding as well as archery and a low/ high ropes course. Our program hosts Girl Scouts entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers.About the role

Right now, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is looking for a full-time Assistant Camp Director to help ensure the ultimate summer camp experience for our campers and staff. This role will oversee day-to-day camp operations to ensure the camp runs smoothly and in accordance with ACA guidelines and legislative requirements. This requires an organized leader that can work under pressure and handle multiple tasks with varying deadlines. Our Assistant Camp Director will wear many hats throughout the season. Key accountabilities include staff training/development, administrative duties, supervisory responsibilities, and program implementation. The ideal candidate will be invested in developing a camp culture that nourishes the health and growth of campers, staff, and volunteers.

The salary for the Assistant Camp Director (Camp Pennyroyal) position is $6,250 for the entire seasonal contract.Staff training will be held May 27 - June 6, with additional training and set-up time for some staff from May 23 - May 25.Key Responsibilities



Complete administrative duties such as hiring and training staff, creating staff schedules, helping to manage multiple budgets, and purchasing supplies.



Communicate across camp and council departments to schedule shopping times for camp; help camp transportation to stay on schedule; work with Site Manager to complete safety orientations.



Ensure that on-boarding/training tasks for seasonal staff have been completed.



Supervise and coach camp staff to develop team members and ensure a great camp experience.



Provide crucial support during opening and closing of camp sessions to both staff and customers.



Utilize Electronic Health Record System (CampDoc) to consistently update/review camper notes, rosters, registration, financials, and accessing health records.



Perform routine checks to confirm the health of equipment, facilities, and programs and works with Site Manager to communicate maintenance needs.



Other duties as assigned.WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT

● Non-traditional and long work hours are expected. The Assistant Camp Director typically receives breaks between sessions. The Assistant Camp Director is always on call when campers are on property.● The Assistant Camp Director has private sleeping quarters that could be near other staff with a shared or private bathroom, electricity and air conditioning.● Most activities happen outdoors with daily exposure to various weather, plants, and animals.● The Assistant Camp Director may be asked to assist with low/ high rope courses, life guarding, swimming, boating, and waterfront activities in lake water.● Walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain.MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION



Must be certified (or willing and prepared to become certified during staff training) in First Aid, CPR, AED, Waterfront Life guarding, and Youth Mental Health First Aid.



Other certifications and outdoor or artistic skills/ knowledge are a plus.



Leadership training and child development training a plus.EXPERIENCE



1 year of working in childcare, youth program, or camp.



1 year of supervisory experience.



1 year of administrative experience.SPECIFIC SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS



21+ years of age



Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment



Strong communication, written, and public speaking skills



Adaptable and flexible within a fast-paced working environment



Organized and consistent



Able to pull up to an overview of the entire goal and problem solve accordingly



Comfortable and competent driving automatic truck and motorized boats



Must have valid driver's license with a safe driving record meeting company standards



Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditionsPOSITION COMPETENCIES



Comfortable with Microsoft Suites, CampDoc, and operating a computer.



Valid forms of ID.



Access to reliable transportation.



Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment.



Complete a background check and provide other forms and details.



Must complete courses and be certified in American Red Cross Life guarding, First Aid, CPR, & AED, Youth Mental Health First Aid prior to start of the first camp session.COUNCIL COMPETENCIES
