What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Senior Network Engineer Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our dynamic IT team! As a Senior Network Engineer, you will play a crucial role in design, implementation, and management of our network security infrastructure, focusing on firewall and network identity systems. As a key member of the network engineering team, you will oversee firewall policy administration, network access control, and identity services management for network devices and end user authentication to ensure our network remains secure, efficient, and compliant with industry standards.

What You Get to Do:

Firewall Policy Administration: Develop, manage, and optimizefirewall policies to support security objectives and policies while enabling business needs. Work with firewall platforms, primarily (but not exclusively) Cisco Firepower and AlgoSec, to ensure robust and effective security configurations.

Firewall Design and Implementation: Design and deploy firewall solutions to protect network resources and prevent unauthorized access. Work closely with other functional teams to plan, test, and implement firewall configurations that support company objectives and enhance security.

Network Access Administration: Utilize Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to manage network access policies and ensure that only authorized users and devices can access network resources.

Network Security Monitoring: Monitor network security systems, identify potential threats or vulnerabilities, and coordinate with Colonial SOC and Security teams response to address security events.

Collaboration and Compliance: Partner with cross-functional teams to assess risks and ensure compliance with SOC and security policies, standards, and best practices. Maintain documentation of firewall rules, network access policies, and security controls.

Networking Support: Apply knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts, such as switching, routing, and VLANs, to support secure network operations and troubleshoot connectivity issues as needed.

What You Bring to the Table:

Bachelor’sdegree in Computer Science, Information Technologyor related field from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

Ideally, 5+ years of experience in network security, specifically with large-scale firewall systems.

Proficiency with Cisco Firepower, Cisco ISE, and AlgoSec or similar firewall and network security products.

Strong understanding of network protocols, Layer 2/Layer 3 networking concepts, and security best practices.

Hands-on experience in firewall policy design, network access management, and security monitoring.

Excellent critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNP Security, Cisco Firepower Certification, or Palo Alto Security certifications.

Experience with network security automation and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for firewall and policy management.

Familiarity with additional security tools and platforms that complement network security (e.g., SIEM solutions like Cisco Splunk, intrusion detection/prevention systems).

Ideally, 5-7 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 4 years in senior or lead level roles.
