Qualifications:- Minimum of a high school degree.- Basic understanding of histology laboratory functions and their relationship to patient care.- Familiarity with medical terminology and above-average math skills preferred.- HT(ASCP) eligibility preferred but not required.
Histology Associate , Per Diem- Day/Evening Responsibilities:- Daily Laboratory Maintenance:- Maintain all laboratory equipment, including tissue processors, fixation stations, embedding centers, and stainers.- Dispose of chemical waste per departmental and hospital regulations.- LIS Software Utilization:- Use LIS software for tracking and error reports.- Print worklists and prioritize daily workflow as directed.- Ensure quality control of blocks and slides.- Distribute slides to residents and staff pathologists.- Maintain accurate records of blocks and slides.- File tissue blocks and report cassette printer deviations.- Block and Slide Management:- Collect blocks and slides for clinical testing, validation, or optimization.- Distribute blocks and slides to Histology Technical Personnel for microtomy and/or testing.- Use the tracking system for slide and block storage.- Send-Out Testing:- Handle send-out testing to CLIA-approved laboratories, including electronic documentation and arranging couriers.- Solution and Reagent Preparation:- Prepare solutions and reagents per approved procedures.- Maintain tissue processors and fixation stations.- Set up the frozen section laboratory, including cleaning and preparing staining solutions.- LIS Operations:- Perform daily lab operations using the LIS system.- Participate in LIS implementations and operational testing, providing feedback for optimization.- May handle off-hours pager coverage on a rotating basis.- Slide Delivery and Case Compilation:- Ensure accurate and timely slide delivery with associated paperwork.- Compile complete cases.- ARCOS Archive System:- Perform daily duties and report discrepancies immediately.- Lab Cleanliness:- Maintain lab cleanliness, reduce clutter, and organize supplies.- Remove paraffin from processing room floor daily.- Report low supply stock to the inventory officer or supervisor.- Para-trim blocks for timely microtomy preparation.- Slide File Room Operations:- Access archive materials per policy.
