Trade Compliance Lead
to join its new team. The position is based in Denver and reports to the Global Director of International Trade Compliance, working closely with the team members of ispace U.S.: internal stakeholders (legal, engineering, procurement, human resources, business development and logistics teams) and external authorities to maintain a compliant trade environment and support the company’s strategic growth within the highly regulated space sectorKey Responsibilities
Ensure Compliance with U.S. export regulations:
Monitor U.S.
export export/import regulations, including export control laws, customs regulations, and trade sanctions relevant to the space industry.Export Control Management:
Lead a robust classification program for both ITAR and EAR technical data and commodities Assist in the update of processes, procedures and help create associated guidance.Licensing and Documentation:
Prepare, submit, and manage export/import licenses, end-user certificates, and other documentation required for cross-border trade of space technology and services.Customs and Import/Export Processes:
Ensure compliance with U.S. customs laws and streamline the import/export processes for space-related hardware and components.Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Identify compliance risks and proactively implement solutions to mitigate the potential for violations of trade regulations.Training and Awareness:
Help to develop and deliver internal training programs on U.S. trade compliance, export controls, and regulatory changes impacting the space industry.Internal Audits and Investigations:
Assist in conducting internal compliance audits to ensure adherence to trade laws and handle any investigations or incidents of non-compliance.Collaboration with Legal and Government Authorities:
Serve as the point of contact with EU regulatory bodies and industry groups. Liaise with legal teams on any trade compliance issues.Serve as a member of the Global Trade Compliance Committee
lead by the U.S. export controls team: Collaborate on common solutions and processes to facilitate interface with all three global entities and bring to attention regional challenges which could have a global impact.Basic Requirements
A minimum of 5 years working in the export compliance field preferably in the aerospace/space
industryBachelor’s Degree in Law, legal studies, International Trade, Engineering, Business, or a related field. We will consider a combination of education and experience.Subject Matter Expert related to U.S. regulatory framework concerning export control laws, customs regulations, and trade sanctions, particularly in the space/aerospace or defense sectors.Expertise in the classification and licensing of dual-use goods and technologies under the EAR.Expertise with U.S. classifications under the International Trade in Arms RegulationsExperience in the space industry or similar highly regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, defense), including a working knowledge of specific export controls and restrictions affecting space technologies.Strong Project Management Skills: Ability to lead compliance projects, manage multiple tasks, and coordinate across various departments (legal, supply chain, engineering, human resources business development and sales etc.).Attention to Detail and Analytical Skills: Proven ability to assess complex regulations, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting.Organization and Planning: Pro-actively work with all functions to identify export compliance requirements related to future business opportunities such as possible licensing requirements, screening, Dual Third Country Nationals etc.Problem Solving and Risk Managemen t : Experience in identifying compliance risks and developing practical solutions to mitigate them.Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with government agencies, DDTC, DoD, BIS and work with cross-functional teams.Experience with DECCS, SNAP-RPreferred Qualifications
Certifications in Trade Compliance: Certifications such as Certified Export Compliance Officer (CECO), or equivalent in EU trade regulations.Fluency in French or Japanese would be an advantageExperience working with regulatory agencies or involvement in trade compliance lobbying activities is preferred.Experience working for Aerospace/Space Prime or sub-contractor strongly preferredExperience in startup environment a plusCompensation and Benefits
Competitive salary based upon experience - $115,000-$135,000.
The salary posted is a targeted range for budget of position.
