Job Description

Position Overview:

In a Post-Acute Care setting NYC H+H/Coler (Coler) with an average census of 500, the Psychiatric NP will make a collegial position along two current full time psychiatrist providing a full spectrum of psychiatric services including psychiatric consultations, psychiatric follow up visits providing both psychotropic medication and non-pharmacological behavior interventions within the standards of current psychiatric practice and within the regulatory framework applicable to the Long-Term Care setting. The Psych NP will report to the Chief of Psychiatry, who will provide all necessary supervision and clinical support to the Psych NP. Common psychiatric conditions prevalent at Coler include severe mental illnesses, dementia due to various causes with behaviors, anxiety and depressive disorders and personality disorders. The fulltime work hours are from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM with no night or weekend calls.

Responsibilities:1. Provide psychiatric services including psychiatric consultations, psychiatric follow-up as needed and respond to urgent emerging behavior presentations when the residents present with change in behavior or mental status.2. Behavior management activities: Provides assessment of behavioral problems on a unit that may include clinical psychiatric evaluation of a patient/resident, assessment of risk implication of behaviors, assess staff needs for support and education; and provides behavior management recommendations to the primary clinical team.3. Behavior management activities: Serves as departmental clinical liaison to various departments of the facility that may include but are not limited to participation in quality improvement committees, nursing leadership, administration and hospital police.4. Participates in the departmental and institutional performance/safety improvement activities.5. Documents clinical activities in the medical record, and maintains documentation of administrative activities.6. Maintains a collaborative relation with an attending psychiatrist for all clinical activities and seeks supervision as needed.7. Educational activities: in collaboration with Chief of Psychiatry provides education to staff and patients/residents on mental health and behavior management principles.8. Provide supervision and guidance to Mental Health Assistants as needed.

Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Department Preferences1. Successful completion of a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program.2. NYS license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the field or area of specialization for which you are employed.3. An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.4. For NP (PC/BH) ONLY: An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department AND regularly working evenings/nights
