What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hourly range for this position is $25.57- $38.36/hour. Our starting hourly range is $25.57- $31.96/hour, based on experience and education.

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the community several days a week. In this position you can expect to work on site at least two days a week at the Republic Plaza at 370 17th Street, Denver, CO 80202. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
At Department of Housing Stability (HOST), we are committed to support Denver residents We invest resources, create policy, and partner with various organizations to help keep residents in the homes that they already live in, quickly resolve an experience of homelessness, and connect residents to new housing opportunities. To support these efforts, the department helps to:
Stabilize residents at risk of involuntary displacement and connect residents to housing resources such as home repairs, rent and utility assistance, and legal support. This work is led by our Homelessness Resolution and Housing Stability Division.Support persons experiencing homelessness by connecting them to housing, shelter and other services to get stabilized quickly. This work is led by our Homelessness Resolution and Housing Stability Division.Create and preserve existing affordable housing and connect residents at any income level to new housing opportunities through programs such as down-payment assistance or counseling services. This work is led by our Housing Opportunity Division.Support financial services, contracting and procurement, data analysis and strategic planning, administrative resources, and communications across the housing continuum. This work is led by our Operations Division.The Senior Housing Inspector is part of our Housing Opportunity Division. As part of the implementation of HOST's vision of a healthy, housed and connected Denver, our Housing Inspector directly supports our efforts to create and preserve affordable housing.
As a Senior Housing Inspector, you will help create a strong City infrastructure and witness the creation of community. You will be an ambassador for HOST working directly with the public and various partners to educate them on housing requirements. Your job will be to conduct inspections and investigations to assure housing created using federal or city funds are safe, sanitary, decent and in good repair. You will work with owners and managers of the City's affordable housing units to ensure compliance with covenant and contractual agreements and that the units meet certain housing quality standards.
Additionally, as our Senior Housing Inspector, you will:
Educate the public on housing guidelines, rules and regulations and HOST's mission
to provide decent, safe, sanitary, housing in good repair to low-moderate income households.Conduct
physical property inspections ( Housing Quality Standard (HQS), NSPIRE ,
Uniform Physical Inspection Standards (UPCS)) of federally and locally housing projects/units to assure health and safety standards are met.
Become NSPIRE inspection certified within first six (6) months of employmentDocument incidents of property non-compliance; work with owners and program partners to cure violationsDocument the inspection process for each unit/project - owner/partner contact information, scheduling, correspondence, inspection, violations, efforts to cure and resolution.
Investigate potential housing covenant violations
(such as non-occupancy) by conducting research of existing records, utilizing technology (e.g. internal City resources, internet, etc.), and site visits.Read, review, research, interpret, and apply various federal and city written guidelines, rules and regulations, policies and procedures and ordinances . When necessary, create written policies.Ensure all reports and written communications
with internal and external partners are completed
in a timely manner based on thorough and accurate documentation.Routinely communicate with manager
(either verbally or written): issues of concern, work progress, suggested program and/or procedure improvements and policy changes.Foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment .We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. A strong commitment to public service and experience working with and serving diverse communities.Experience conducting complex property inspections and investigating compliance violations.Knowledge of Federal, State and local housing property standards or codes.Experience conducting residential inspections (HQS, NSPIRE, UPCS, or other) and documenting resolution process.Excellent customer service skills.Knowledge of NSPIRE.Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Graduate from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.Experience Requirement: Three (3) years' experience performing inspections to ensure compliance with standards and ordinances at the intermediate level.Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.Application Deadline
