Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for maintaining street lighting systems for the Division of Power; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Operates multi-meter and hand tools used in the repair and replacement of lighting equipment;
Arranges location reports regarding inoperative streetlights into an efficient driving route;
Operates a bucket truck to locate and reach Citywide inoperative streetlights;
Replaces or repairs fuses, lamps, luminaries and streetlight controller components;
Operates a two-way radio in order to receive and respond to CDC requests and report any inoperative streetlights that require line repair;
Drives commercial motor vehicles that require a commercial driver's license;
Completes daily work sheets and vehicle reports;
Operates a laptop computer to access work orders for streetlight outage repairs;
Follows OSHA and Division safety procedures; uses proper PPE, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, safety harness and other required safety equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of experience working with energized electrical lines or equipment. Substitution(s): Successful completion of a formal training program in the general principles of electricity or power distribution may substitute for the required experience.
By completion of the probationary period, appointees must possess the following: a valid, Class A, commercial motor vehicle operator's license allowing operation of vehicles with air brakes.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and willreplacethe names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.
The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Reading Comprehension, Information Ordering, Problem Sensitivity, Work Safety, Electricity Principles, and Outlook 2016/2019.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
