Position Summary:

The Houseman is responsible for ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable experience for all banquet guests. This position correctly and efficiently sets up and breaks down all banquet department functions while practicing safe handling, care and storage of all banquet equipment and supplies. The Houseman is responsible for keeping the function room area, aisle room and storage areas, neat and clean at all times. This position services all meeting rooms during breaks, and works side-by-side with all banquet staff to assist and service guests.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for practicing, supporting and promoting Graton Resort & Casino's core values and demonstrating Exemplary Service Standards at all times.
2. Thoroughly familiar with the location of all function rooms and pre-function areas, and the various type of workable setups.
3. Correctly and efficiently set up and break down all banquet department functions.
4. Read and follow all BEO instructions and follow set ups according to floorplans as drawn.
5. Set a ballroom (1,500 chairs) for concerts according to production company's floor plans.
6. Oversee multiple functions and flip rooms as necessary.
7. Cross department communication with kitchen, banquet management team and stewarding teams are essential.
8. Practice safe handling, care and storage of all banquet equipment and supplies.
9. Keep function room area, aisle room, and storage areas clean and neat at all times.
10. Empty trash receptacles and setup clean ones.
11. Set up hot boxes for the kitchen and have plates ready.
12. Return all equipment not in use to its proper storage area, in good condition, before the end of each shift.
13. Check electrical hook ups for proper working order and tape down all exposed cords for equipment in use.
14. Service and freshen meeting rooms during breaks; check room temperature, and ensure all lights are working and adjusted properly.
15. Help maintain and organize back aisle.
16. Help facilitate the jobs of Banquet Servers and Bussers (expediting).
17. Plan, order and inventory all supplies, and beverages needed to execute events.
18. Help complete all pre-function preparation, including pulling items (using Pull Sheets) for meal services.
19. If closing, ensure that skirts are properly hung on hangers, floors are swept and mopped, silver is cleaned, coffee urns are cleaned and turned off, dirty linen is separated and bagged for laundry service, sinks and drains are cleaned, props are stored, and garbage is taken out.
20. Take care of incoming linen, and organize linen shelves and skirts.
21. Polish silver, as needed.
22. Cross train in other banquet/restaurant positions.
23. Work with Banquet Manager to execute all confirmed events.
24. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

1. Ability to communicate in English effectively with Guests, Team Members and Management in both written and verbal form.
2. Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision.
3. Two to four (2-4) years of banquet, catering experience at a property of similar size and quality.
4. High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.
5. Ability to oversee multiple functions.
6. Interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with the public and coworkers.
7. Ability to meet to deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

1. Manual dexterity to operate job related equipment.
2. Able to endure repetitive motions for extended periods of time.
3. Able to perform general housekeeping work.
4. Able to set up and break down equipment.
5. Able to push or pull heavy loads weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.
6. Able to handle food professionally.
7. Able to move continuously during the shift throughout the workspace to perform essential functions.
