The IDB Invest Legal Department (GCL) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional to work together with our Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs Division (GCL/ICL), focusing on the substantive areas referenced below.Our department advises all of the governance bodies of IDB Invest, a multilateral development bank organized as an international organization owned by 48 member countries. As part of our functions, we provide a full range of legal support to IDB Invest’s mission of promoting the economic development of our Latin American and Caribbean developing member countries, by investing in private sector companies.The Institutional and Corporate Legal Affairs (ICL) Division provides legal advice on all institutional, corporate and financial matters for IDB Invest, our broad portfolio spans advisory on international development through private sector investments, the relationship with member countries, the relationship with other international organizations, including the relationship with the IDB and IDB Lab, which are part of the IDB Group, capital market transactions to fund our operations, data privacy, resource mobilization, financial management, administration of human resources, intellectual property, information technology, compliance, litigation, and many other matters of strategic importance to IDB Invest.What you’ll do

You will assist our team of highly specialized counsel under the direction of our Managing Director. Your functions may include:Institutional and Corporate Matters: Provide legal advice on institutional and corporate matters, such as privileges and immunities, regulatory issues, strategic institutional initiatives and policies, intellectual property, information technology and procurement.IDB Invest Constituent Documents: Provide legal advice on IDB Invest’s basic documents, including the Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Investment Corporation, an international treaty, and on issues including the rights and obligations of member countries, capital subscriptions, issues of governance, and related policy initiatives.Financial Management: Provide legal advice in relation to financial management and treasury operations, including the implementation of IDB Invest’s borrowing program in the international capital markets, derivatives transactions, negotiation of ISDA Agreements, disclosures, financial reporting to investors and interaction with regulatory authoritiesResource Mobilization and Cooperation Arrangements: Provide legal advice related to the establishment of trust funds and agreements for co-financing and other resource mobilization and cooperation initiatives.Human Resources Administration: Provide legal advice on the design and implementation of personnel policies, including contract modalities and benefits; administration of IDB Invest personnel in IDBG Country Offices; administration of employee benefit trusts, including the Staff Retirement Plans; employee conduct and ethics; and the employee grievance system.Legal Disputes: Manage a diverse litigation portfolio, including in the IDBG’s Administrative Tribunal, national judicial and administrative systems in IDB Invest member countries, and arbitration. Supervise the representation of IDB Invest’s interests in such forums and negotiate resolution of disputes.Keep abreast of trends in legal issues and precedents across IDB Invest member countries and make recommendations for newly standardized approaches and updated practices accordingly. Promote knowledge sharing and innovative products and services with relevant stakeholdersOversee the selection and supervision of outside counsel services in a cost-effective manner.What you'll need

Education: Graduate Law degree (Juris Doctor, LL.M., or equivalent degree) from an accredited university.Experience: At least 5 but less than 10 years of relevant experience.Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.Soft Skills: Self-management, Team player, inclusive, innovative, and creative, flexibility, dependability, relationship building, results-driven, with strong communication skills.Technical skills: Advance proficiency level in Microsoft Office Apps.Requirements

Citizenship: You are either a citizen or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in the country for post of duty.Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.Type of contract and duration

Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.Length of contract: 19 months, renewable up to 36 months at the sole discretion of IDB Invest.What we offer
