Gearbox Software is looking for a Lead Level Designer to join our team! We are building a first person shooter in Unreal Engine 5, and are looking to grow our Level Design leadership team. This role would report to the Worldbuilding Lead, taking ownership over the direction and creation of a portion of the game's level design needs. The role will manage a group of level designers, providing direction and feedback on their work, while also owning some amount of level creation. Level Designers at Gearbox work in small groups with Level Artists, Mission Designers, and Lighting Artists to help craft a cohesive world and narrative experience. As a Level Design Lead, this role will work with the leads of those other departments to help coordinate the flow of information and deal with any conflicts that arise.
Position can be staffed at any of our offices, full remotely, or a flexible combination of days in the office and remotely.
Responsibilities:
Work with the level design team to develop focused gameplay environments that showcase player and enemy combat and abilities.
Manage a group of level designers, providing direction, feedback, and coaching to help them progress in their craft.
Coordinate the needs of the Level Design team with the Level Art, Mission Design, and Lighting Art teams to ensure our levels are well built.
Work with department production to track project goals and provide regular information to project leadership about the team's progress.
Help promote the project through demos, events, live streams, press interviews, and more when the project is ready for release.
Qualifications:
Multiple shipped AAA games in a Level Design role, preferably in a leadership role.
Portfolio or demo reel showcasing your work.
Solid understanding of modern level/game design practices.
Ability to communicate with all facets of the team to determine and act upon design needs.
Ability to evaluate progress on a game level and determine what is needed to bring the level to completion.
Ability to work in the US or Quebec, either near our Frisco, Quebec City, or Montreal offices, or ability to work remotely at an agreed upon location.
Bonus Points For:
Unreal Engine 4/5 experience.
Shipped AAA Level Design experience.
College Graduate.
