About the Department

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Chicago consists of twenty-two full time faculty members. Each faculty member brings with them expertise on a wide variety of Orthopaedic problems including: Bone and Soft Tissue Cancer, Bone Health and Fragility, Bone Infection Care, Foot and Ankle Care, Fracture Care, Hand and Wrist Care, Hip Care, Knee Care, Pediatric Orthopaedic Care, Shoulder and Elbow Care, Spine Care and Sports Medicine.

This position provides professional support in the development and implementation of faculty support programs.

Responsibilities

Coordinates and documents faculty and other academic appointee searches using the University's applicant tracking system.

Assumes comprehensive responsibility for the drafting, review, assembly, and submission of electronic and paper materials in support of departmental appointive actions.

Onboards faculty, other academic appointees, postdoctoral researchers, and academic visitors, including coordination of privileging with the University of Chicago Medical Center's Medical Staff Office.

Processes visa materials, working with the University's Office of International Affairs.

Serves as a resource to faculty and faculty administrative leaders on University policy and process matters and on BSD's academic guidelines and HR Policies and Procedures.

Utilizes oral and written communication skills to promote and ensure efficient processing compliance.

Contributes to process improvement as an advocate for client departments.

Drafts correspondence on faculty and other academic appointee matters on behalf of the department chair and/or section chiefs.

Assumes comprehensive responsibility for the Medical Staff office appointment and reappointment process.

Participates in Faculty Engagement initiatives.

Assists with managing the day-to-day operations of faculty affair programs with a moderate level of guidance.

Serves as a resource for program information. Resolves problems or questions referred by program staff, University administrators, or other contingencies.

May process job postings for faculty and other academic appointments.

Gathers and analyzes data for possible solutions for faculty-related issues. Writes reports and expands knowledge and experience in areas.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree.

We welcome advanced degrees and/or advanced training/certification in academic or general HR.

Experience:

At least three years relevant post-college work experience or at least eight years of progressively responsible work experience.

Work experience in a post-secondary academic, healthcare, non-profit, or equivalent setting.

Prior experience in working with faculty and/or academic appointees, especially in a faculty/academic affairs role.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Knowledge of visa processing requirements.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; willingness and ability to learn new technology.
