Position Summary

NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Studyis seeking a dynamicAssociate Director of Science, Technology, Arts, and Creativity (STAC)to lead and innovate within Gallatin’s Maker Space (746-STAC). This role offers a unique opportunity to bridge science, technology, arts, and humanities in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Program Design & Implementation: Create and evaluate interdisciplinary programs integrating science, technology, arts, and humanities.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with faculty and staff to develop groundbreaking initiatives that enrich the learning experience.

Inclusive Maker Space Management: Oversee daily operations, ensuring safety compliance and fostering a welcoming community where all students can explore and innovate.

Event & Residency Coordination: Plan events, residencies, and experiential learning activities that enhance the STAC experience.

Student Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor a dedicated team of student staff, supporting hands-on learning and collaborative projects.

Community Building & Creativity: Cultivate an inclusive, practice-based learning community that integrates emerging science and tech with Gallatin’s strengths in creative and interdisciplinary work.

Teaching & Advising: Teach one course (or equivalent) per year and advise students as they explore interdisciplinary pathways.

The role requires on-site work four days a week with one remote day. Join us in transforming the STAC Maker Space into a hub of creativity, discovery, and interdisciplinary exploration!

Qualifications

Required Education:Doctoral Degree All but Dissertation (ABD) or Terminal Degree in an interdisciplinary STEM field.Preferred Education:Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary STEM field preferred.Required Experience:5+ years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3+ years teaching and advising experience in an interdisciplinary programPreferred Experience:3+ years Experience managing maker spaces, and student technical instructors working with interdisciplinary and experiential learning teams. Experience developing experiential learning programs that foster community and collaboration across diverse groups. Demonstrated success teaching, and mentoring in a STEM field with a strong experiential learning component.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Expertise across the STEM/humanities/art/entrepreneurship boundary. Experience with a wide variety of fabrication skills, including 3d printing, sewing, electronics, woodworking, and other design and prototyping equipment. Highly collaborative in a team environment. Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a high attention-to-detail.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Proficient in MS Office Applications, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, and other common design software and tools. Experience in data analytics and data visualization a plus.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $80,000 to USD $100,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
