The Role
We have an opportunity for a Marine or Naval Engineer with interests or experience in marine forensic investigation, litigation support, risk loss consulting, repair, and retrofit design. Curiosity, engineering excellence, and solid writing skills are required for this position. You will have the opportunity to lead investigations in the seaport and waterfront-built environment, industrial facilities, marine infrastructure, transportation sector, and high-tech applications. You will be supported in this role by a diverse multidisciplinary team ranging from entry-level engineers to senior management.
Position Description
You will manage projects independently and support engineers in the Forensics practice on projects as needed. We will support you in business development activities such as conferences and business development events.
You will be working directly with a wide variety of clients, including attorneys, vessel and seaport and terminal property owners, contractors, and insurance professionals, on a wide range of investigations which may involve:
Mooring, Towing, and Anchoring AnalysesHull Damage Assessments and Repair PlansDry Dock, Graving Dock, and Ship LiftVessel Marine Casualty or Accident InvestigationStructural and Material Failure AnalysisMechanical Failure AnalysisNaval ArchitectureEquipment BreakdownRoot Cause AnalysisEquipment Damage AssessmentEquipment Loss Consulting and MitigationFire Protection and Detection Systems
You may be called to serve as an expert witness in various scenarios, including depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. We will support you should such matters arise.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in maritime or naval engineering is required.Master's degree in related field preferred.12+ years of experience in the Maritime and Naval field.Marine and Naval Architecture Professional Engineering (PE) License in at least one jurisdiction and the ability to obtain licensure in others.Ability to bring or develop a book of business.Ability to write reports that clearly express engineering opinions and conclusions and support these conclusions/opinions with facts and sound engineering principles.Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, meet deadlines, and travel to work sites.Ability and willingness to travel for short durations for certain assignments.
CompensationThe rate for this position generally is $150,000 - $250,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the Washington State Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful Washington State applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in Washington State or perform the position from Washington State. Similar positions located outside of Washington State will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by Washington Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location, and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law.
