Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, seeks an energetic, thoughtful, dedicated, and detail-minded Assistant Director of Communications to assist in executing a strategic communications and marketing plan to advance the institution’s mission and vision. This 12-month position is full time, on campus, and reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing.The Assistant Director of Communications must be a strong writer and photographer with a passion for storytelling, strong project management skills, meticulous attention to detail, an open and collaborative spirit, and a commitment to education.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITIONDevelop and promote key messages and branding that align with institutional priorities.Manage all digital media and print publications, including the annual

magazine and annual report, the annual admissions guide, and the family handbook.Manage and deploy all weekly communications including the weekly newsletters to employees and to families.Serve as web content producer and editor.Update and manage the website calendar.Serve as the School’s photographer.Create, manage, and execute a social media plan in support of the School’s mission.Execute an inbound-marketing strategy to assist Admissions in recruiting prospective families to the school.Operate the School’s CMS and other systems.Create digital graphics for web and social media.Serve as copyeditor on school messages and publications.Shoot and edit video as needed.Assist with additional communications, marketing, and mission-supporting projects.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIESSkilled storyteller with experience creating compelling, engaging, and ROI-driven digital content.Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, basic HTML, social media tools, video editing, and web publishing.Experience with Blackbaud preferred.Experience executing online and print advertising campaigns.Ability to work independently; a self-starter with a high level of integrity and the ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion.Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to many constituencies including parents, donors, volunteers, and colleagues.Professionalism, maturity, flexibility, good judgment, and humor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA minimum of 3-5 years of experience in marketing and communications, superior digital marketing skills, and a strong grasp of communications-industry best practices.A commitment to mission-driven organizations.Experience in independent schools preferred.Experience managing vendor and consultant relationships.Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.GENERAL REQUIREMENTSPassing periodic background checks, FBI background check and, at the discretion of the school, drug, and alcohol screening.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write and format professional correspondence, memos, support documentation, press releases, and articles.Mature judgment and discretion; ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure.Consistent and prompt attendance.Compliance with the provisions of the Beauvoir Faculty & Staff Handbook.WORKING CONDITIONS (SCHEDULE, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT)The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.The position requires near and far vision for reading and preparing written reports and other documents.Acute hearing is also required when providing phone assistance.The need to lift, drag, push, and pull files, reports, and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds is required.Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter and résumé to: Lisa Gilcrest, Director of Communications & Marketing, at lisa.gilcrest@cathedral.org with “Asst.
