DIRECTOR LABORATORY UTILIZATION | REMOTE
The Director, Laboratory Utilization is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the use of laboratory resources to improve clinical outcomes, reduce costs, and ensure high-quality diagnostic services. This role involves collaborating with clinical staff, lab leadership, and laboratory associates to implement best practices in test ordering, utilization management, and resource allocation. The director leads initiatives across BSMH that enhance operational efficiency, patient safety, and financial performance while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Develops strategy for point of care testing across the ministry
Collaborates with Executive Directors on insourcing capabilities
Monitors lab usage data, trends, and key performance indicators to assess efficiency and effectiveness
Develops strategies for high dollar tests, tailoring use to the most appropriate setting
Analyzes data and prepares regular reports on lab utilization, costs and outcomes for senior leadership and relevant stakeholders
Develops strategies to address utilization related issues such as unnecessary testing or prolonged turn around times, in collaboration with lab leaders and clinicians
Assesses financial impact of testing patterns to provide recommendations on cost saving opportunities across the system
Evaluates Choosing Wisely guidelines for lab testing. Determine a plan for education of clinicians around obsolete testing
Works with IT and clinical leaders to develop best practice alerts in Epic
Standardize EPIC/LIS test names and mappings to optimize test orders
Participates in system committees related to clinical decision support, lab testing, utilization management, informatics, and other related committees
Leads and facilitates Patient Blood Management Committee
Works with IT to evaluate duplicate alerts in Epic and re-design for high impact to usefulness and reduction of alert fatigue
Partners with blood providers on proper utilization of blood types and supplemental products to reduce cost to supply
Partners with blood providers on coordination of blood drives to impact cost
REQUIRED
MLT/MT/MLS required
5+ years’ experience in lab services and operations with 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role.
Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science (MLS/MLT), healthcare administration, finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
