The primary purpose and general duties of the Cancer Registrar is to manage and analyze clinical cancer information for the purpose of processing, maintaining, compiling and reporting health information for research, quality management/improvement, monitoring patient outcomes, cancer program development, cancer prevention and surveillance, survival data, compliance of reporting standards, evaluation of the results of treatment, and national accreditation standards. The Cancer Registrar is responsible for the preparation of abstracts and accessioning into the Registry all oncology patients treated or diagnosed at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Completing oncology studies as requested by staff physicians and/or the Cancer Committee and the American College of Surgeons; and preparing material for the Cancer Conferences and Cancer Committee meetings. Submitting accurate data to the SC State Cancer Registry and the National Cancer database. In addition, this position will provide overall management of the Cancer Registry including providing direction, appraisal and counseling of the staff.
