Position Summary The Emergency Room RN is responsible for the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and well-being, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.

Education and Experience Requirements

EDUCATION: Required: Associates Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Nursing

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Valid Iowa Nursing license or from a reciprocating state BLS ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP within one year of hire

Preferred: Certification by accredited body in area of most experience

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Preferred: 2-3 years with Emergency Department experience

Essential Job Functions

Within the scope of nursing practice, assess the patient's physical, psychological, social and environmental status specific to age using the nursing process. Safely, consistently, and accurately administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician or advanced practice providers. Maintains knowledge base regarding hospital philosophy and customer service standards. Provides outstanding customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and team members, as evidenced by application of organizational standards such as AIDET, patient rounding, bedside reporting, prompt response to call lights and patient needs, and other customer service initiatives Recognize and identify cardiac rhythms, implementing appropriate nursing care according to unit policy and ACLS protocol. Attends 75% of unit staff meetings to maintain awareness of job-related issues. Thoroughly and accurately documents patient care interventions/interactions in a timely manner within the electronic health record. Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information. Shows clinical inquiry by participating in educational opportunities and shares expanded knowledge and skills with other staff members. Interacts in a positive, professional, and collegial manner with peers and other team members to facilitate a healthy work environment supportive of optimal patient care delivery and employee engagement. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in time management, resources and use of supplies. Performs all other duties as assigned.
